Hotel recommendations in Central Edinburgh?

Close relatives are looking to go to Edinburgh for a weekend in June to celebrate a milestone birthday. I've been before and loved it but we were happy enough to stay in a Premier Inn. One relative likes 'naice' hotels though. Any recommendations on decent hotels in central Edinburgh that don't cost the Earth?

Ricks on Frederick street or my personal choice Tigerlily. Sometimes you get deals on Tigerlily's own website or itison.

Central Edinburgh in June will be fairly expensive, what sort of budget do they have?

Motel One is fairly new, two hotels in town, one on the Royal Mile (old town) and one on Princes Street, right opposite Waverley Station. Quite cool/modern design and nice rooms, smart and great location. Princes Street site is approx £100/night in June - cheap for that area.

Best city centre hotels are the Caledonian (Waldorf Astoria), Balmoral (opposite Motel One), the Roxburghe is being refurbished and will be lovely - all £££ in June. Prestonfield House feels like a country house but is only 10 mins from city centre and very beautiful, great for a special trip.

We stayed at the Radisson on the Royal Mile last year. It was fabulous and so central.

The Macdonald is reasonably priced but at the other end of the Royal Mile from the castle.

I stayed in the Principal (formerly the George) in November wth a voucher and it's fantastic but about £180/night full price. Still cheaper than the Balmoral etc that are £300/night.

The Bonham is lovely. Very well placed for sightseeing too. If you fancy an apartment I recommend the Princes street apartments.

We stayed at 21212 a couple of years ago. It is really a restaurant with rooms, and was just gorgeous. Not too expensive for a treat, and a couple of minutes walk from Princes St.
