mm shame you mentioned cheap... was going to suggest The Sharrow bay Hotel but cheap it ain't!

Grasmere is lovely or the Inn On the Lake at Ullswater - very pretty.

Mind we do camping so maybe I'm not one to ask that may not save the aforementioned marriage..............

The Inn on the Lake actually has an offer on at the moment, pay for one DBB and get a second night free.

Sharrow bay looks fab .. but £420 a night? .. eek

this is making this look far more reasonable ..

its affordable .. but a stretch

L'Enclume in Cartmel.
Fabulous restaurant with room. The rooms are all kitted out with antiques, lovely bathrooms, the one we had had a big roll top bath.here

The Drunken Duck at Barngates near Tarn Hows is supposed to be very pretty
Sharrow Bay not really my cup of tea, and possibly too po-faced for some quality R & R. Food is glorious though

Hi Twiggs
If I was coming to the Lakes on a Save a marriage mission on a budget I would try the Howtown Hotel...
Stunning location (better than the Sharrow) good food (owners of Sharrow used to eat here before they croaked)

Good luck!

We have just come back from a couple of nights at the Samling and it was fantastic. Although not cheap, they do special midweek breaks so may be worth a phone call. The food was out of this world.

Howtown is a shlepp if you want to go anywhere else, though, isn't it? And hardly bustling. Fine if you want to, you know, stay in a lot.

Shelepp??

Rare Cumbrain dialect word, Anteater.

I like Howtown, though.
