The Crowne Plaza is really nice, right next to the Albert Dock, Beatles Story, Tate Liverpool etc, about a ten / fifteen minute walk into town. Crowne Plaza Liverpool 0151 243 8000

If you want to go upmarket Liverpool has just opened a Malmaison, 0151 229 5000. Don't know about prices though I would have thought it would be very expensive.

Marriott is quite nice but is right next to the bus gyratory so can get a bit hairy at night time! 0151 476 8000. Also I don't know what parking is like there.

Whatever you do don't go to the Adelphi!!!

Oh forgot to add, Feathers is actually okay if you want more of a B&B feel. Only two stars but I have stayed there overnight once and I thought it was nice! 0151 709 2020. Feathers Group . Again I don't know about parking. It's nearer the universities, about five minute walk into town.

I didn't actually stay there. I happened upon the reception one day ten years ago, not exactly straight headed shall we say with a friend. I worked at the museum at the time and the next day when I was in work am American couple came in to collect the free passes i'd apparently promised them.

Another vote for Hope St - but it's expensive! Thistle was horrible last time I was there (couple of years ago).

E-mail hopestreet - they are prompt and clued up; see if they can extend their Feb offer rate for you, or ask for £100 / night. Yes, it is an expensive hotel, but it's also fairly 'boutique' and the room facilities / design / materials / staff were all excellent. They have a car park they use round the corner. Can't remember how much that was. I don't dig expensive hotels, they always seem to be such a disappointment. This wasn't.
