July is Scams Awareness month and a good time to pass on useful advice. If anyone’s not aware that fraudsters can target people’s properties, then read this article of how it nearly happened to one homeowner - www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3356929/The-thieves-stole-wife-s-house-sold-1-3million.html . Land Registry has some useful advice about protecting yourself from property fraud – www.gov.uk/propertyfraud. They also have a free service called Property Alert you can sign up to which means you’ll get emails when certain applications are made affecting the property you are monitoring so you can judge whether it’s suspicious or not – read more at www.gov.uk/property-alert. You can monitor up to ten properties in England and Wales so you could monitor the property of an elderly relative for example.
