We have to go up and collect my son at the end of May, we drive up from Kent. It will be our 3rd trip to Yorkshire this year and is costing us a fortune. We need two rooms, cheapest option so far is Travelodge in Harrogate, £92 for 2 rooms, and a 40 min drive then up to Catterick. Any ideas anyone?

Might cost a little more, but worth looking at the premier inn in Richmond - much shorter drive, too. Or there's a travelodge at Scotch Corner.

the Scotch Corner Hotel sometimes have cheap deals as does the travelodge at Scotch Corner Services -they are a little bit further north than the Garrison but no more a detour than driving into Harrogate. There are some lovely BandBs in Richmond also which is very close to the Garrison (you probably know that already!)

Travelodges on the motorways are usually the cheapest in my experience tho if you are really wanting to cut the price - can often get a room for 19 or 29 pounds

There's also a Holiday Inn at Scotch Corner and a Premier inn in Darlington - all much closer than Harrogate!

Not sure there is a premier inn in Richmond ouryve. There is one that opened last year in the Garrison near Tescos? Unless I have completely missed it! Which is always possible.

I might be getting that one mixed up with the Holiday Inn.

And yes - there's one at Catterick Garrison and, if it's not booked up for that night, it doesn't look extortionate.

Thank you both, think the PI at the garrison is about £60 per room, trouble is I need 2 rooms, with fuel up from here (£90) + food its getting expensive and bumping up my credit card bill! Will have a look at Scotch Corner. x

Is the PI at the garrison near the Tescos that's opposite Lidl, I saw the supermarkets as we drove out when we took him up there. If it wasn't for the amount of kit he has to bring home we would have gone by train as we get a good concession.......and its quicker!

There's usually a contact house on most military camps that relatives can stay in when visiting their soldier. You or your DS would need to contact welfare. We stayed in one at Brize when I had major surgery, it was about £25 for the week.

Gosh that's useful to know, will pass the word round on that one! Thank you. x

The PI at the garrison is £64 per room, that's the saver rate!

try the travelodge at scotch corner services - rooms there are often 30-40 pounds. i just searched on trivago and the black lion in Richmond had a twin room for seven pounds on a sunday night Shock including breakfast - nothing wrong with it - we stayed there a few times when we were viewing houses up here!

Get your son to go to the Welfare officer and ask about the welfare flats. The last one I had stayed in was at Southwick Park near Portsmouth. It was a 2 bed with full kitchen for £15 a night.

sounds like your best bet would be to follow bloodynoris's advice and get in touch with welfare or failing that there is airbandb?

Hi have reserved 2 rooms thru booking.com at a place called The Bull Inn in West Tanfield nr Ripon off of the A1M, not too far from Catterick . It won the Yorkshire pub of the year two years running and had very good reviews. £110 for 2 rooms +breakfast. I can cancel 24 hours before and pay on arrival. Seems good. Would still rather stay at the PI in the garrison though so I can see my son that night. If any deals come up I will!

Have you contacted the Hive at catterick or looked for info on their website? There will be a contact house/transit accom but usually gets booked up quite quick. If not then they will have info on places to stay locally that give forces discount etc. Being local ish to the area I would have said the hotels off scotch corner roundabout would be easiest.
