Where shall we go on holiday?!

DH doesn't want to go abroad this year, so we're thinking about where to go on holiday. We've got some obvious places on the list (Lake District, Cornwall, Norfolk Broads, Yorkshire, North Wales). Please recommend some nice places that we may not have thought of!

We already have a weekend break in South Wales planned (Porthcawl) and we live in Somerset so looking further afield than Devon/Dorset! There is me, DH and DD aged 6. It doesn't have to be beach based.

Preferably looking for something that won't cost £££££. Thanks!

New Quay - West Wales is a beautiful place to stay with lots of nice places surrounding to ride out to or if you prefer to stay close beautiful beaches, dolphins in the bay and a little village

We've had wonderful holidays at both the North Norfolk coast and the North Cornwall coast.

Norfolk Broads would be lovely. I'm from Norfolk and every when we go up we visit BeWilderWood and drive past bits of the Broads and say 'One of these days we must rent a boat for a couple of days!', but so far we haven't.

N. Yorks is lovely. We had a week there last summer. York is a lovely city to visit and we liked Scarborough too. Nice beaches if the weather is decent. I also love W. Sussex - very pretty and rolling, Chichester v. pretty and lovely beaches at the Witterings.

DD absolutely adored Bewilderwood - we went twice, once when she was 6, once when she was 8.

Shropshire. Probably our best UK holiday was in a cottage in Much Wenlock. There is so much to see and do: the Severn Valley railway, Ludlow, West Midlands safari Park, Ironbridge, various National Trust properties, Kinver Edge, Wenlock Edge.

Thanks Bunbaker - DH has relatives in Shropshire he hasn't seen for ages so that could be a good option!

We went the last week of the summer school holidays and I was amazed at how little traffic there was on the roads - one of the reasons we loved it so much. I think people drive past or through Shropshire and don't give it a second thought.

I would love to go back.
