Walking the coast to Lands End, any ideas...

Is there any child friendly coastal walks to Lands End? We are hoping to park about a mile away and we will have young DC with us. Anyone know where the best place to park is?

Parking will be restricted on nearby roads I would imagine. Some farms may have field-parking, but will charge for it !

In the '60s we used to go every year (but didn't have a car in those days). We stayed in Treen or Porthcurno (where the Minack Theatre is) and used to walk to Land's End frequently, sometimes just to photograph the sunset. Porthgwara is another tiny village on the way to Land's End, and its 'cave' was in the recent "Poldark".

If you get Google Maps Street View, and 'drag' it to a suitable scale you can explore the area on a computer.

To the north is Sennen Cove. There may be a pay car park there, but I'm only guessing. I would imagine footpaths may be suitable for push chairs; these days there may even be wheelchair access in some places.

I have been on a family friendly walking holiday in that area and walked with my children from Sennen Cove to Lands End Can't remember how long it took but my youngest was 4. i think we had a bus back and didn't walk back. Good paths and great views.

I have looked at the holiday itineary page and it is 3 miles with 300ft of ascent (one way)

We stayed at a campsite in Sennan Cove years ago and walked to Lands end. Can't remeber how long the walk was though!

Another question... Can anyone suggest a nice quiet beach? We don't mind walking apanything up to a mile to get there.

Virtually all the easily-accessible beaches are likely to be quite busy during good weather in holiday time.

Porthchapel beach, below St Levan's church, at the end of a cul-de-sac from Porthcurno, is going to be quieter than most, because you cannot park near it, so walking is the only way to get there. There are NO FACILITIES there, just a path and the beach, and the cliff path going west to Porthgwarra and Land's End, and east to Porthcurno, Treen and the Logan Rock, and Penberth Cove.

Porttcurno is much larger, has car park (probably paying), refreshments, toilets etc. And a village shop I think, the Minack Theatre, and nearby small hotels. 'First Bus' has a regular service from Penzance to Porthcurno and Land's End; they use open top buses in good weather.Portcurno was the site of the first trans-Atlantic cable (in 1870), so it was in at the birth of modern telecommunications, and there is a Telegraph museum:

It is £22 for two adults and three children I think.

Where are you staying, as that could influence where your nearest quiet beach is?

Treen and Logan Rock have rocky beaches, and nice walks. Parking, pub, and possibly a shop at Treen.

Pedn-Vounder may be difficult to climb down to, but worth it if you can manage it!
