Week in Shrewsbury

Going to Shrewsbury for week next month (just before schools break up) and looking for ideas of places to go for a 6 and 3yo to go to. We've got Ironbridge and Acton Scott on the list (plus park, swimming pool etc) but wondered if there was anywhere else good to go to.

Blists Hill living history Victotian town is really good fun. It's just outside Ironbridge. You can "buy" Victorian pennies to spend at the baker's. We took DS when he was 2.5; a little young, I think 6 and 3 would be perfect.

Attingham park is lovely - a national trust property with a big playing field for the kids to play in and lively walks - it has some geocaches which could be fun to do.

In Welshpool there is a steam railway - //www.wllr.org.uk

There also ice skating in Telford and the town park is really good, with wonderland in it.

Second Ironbridge, Blists Hill and Ludlow.

We had a wonderful week in Much Wedlock a few years ago and went to the aforementioned places, plus West Midlands safari park, Severn Valley Railway and a couple of NT properties. I love Shropshire.

Thanks all, some great things by the sound of it! I have fond memories of holidays down there as a child as we have relatives who live in Shrewsbury ....it always seemed sunny too!

your children will love Hawkestone Park - a large park laid out in the 18th century, full of follies. lots of space to run around.

If you're in the market for new kids bikes, Islabikes are around Shrewsbury and their HQis the only place you can try them out.

Definitely Attingham Park.

Quarry Park in town is nice with a good playground.

Forgot Telford Town Park - spent many fabulous days there when DC were young.

There is an awful lot to see and do at Ironbridge. Do you know that you can get tickets that will allow you to go back again and again.

Another vote for Hawkstone - it's fab (well, it was last time we went but that was a few years ago).
