Northumberland caravan site or self-catering cottage

Never been to Northumberland and really fancy it for next year so looking for some accommodation recommendations! Will be two adults and two DC (9 and 7). Criteria as follows:

• Peaceful/pretty location
  
• Within easy reach of Bamburgh, Alnwick and a lovely beach
  
• 'Naice' static caravan/campsite or possibly a cottage but it needs to have lots of outdoor space, play areas etc, and if no bar on-site, within staggering distance of a good family pub :)

The weather can be very cold, windy, rainy and unpredictable in Northumberland (and also glorious). I would definetly recommend a cottage over a caravan.

Thanks Misty. We always holiday in the UK so are used to packing winter woollies and waterproofs for our summer holiday Do you have any cottage recommendations?

Hoseasons have a couple of sites up that way. The Wooler site is quiet and out of the way but you'll need a car to get to Bamburgh etc. WARNING: Haggerston Castle site is anything but quiet!

Northumberland tourism has an accommodation section that has cottages (abit pricey for me but I'm skint!) But I don't know any cottages to recommend personally - sorry!

I LOVE Cresswell Towers static van site in Northumberland at the Southern tip of Druridge bay (about 5 mile long beach of soft silver sand. It's on the beach in a very quiet village. There are no shops except an ice cream shop and the camp shop. Red squirrels run wild in the trees, there's a Martello Tower, an adventure playground, an indoor swimming pool, bar and restaurant. It's very clean and well run and has a big white friendly camp cat.

The beach has clean loos, a great ice cream shop and rock pools as well as miles of sand. There is a lake with a bird hide too.

It's also very cheap.

So long as you have a car you can get to Alnwick and Bamburgh from there, and also to Amble where you take the boat out for seal and puffin trips round Coquet island.

You'll love it. It is the most beautiful part of the UK imo.
