This is an area we really want to explore more- we want to do Falkirk wheel, the kelpies, day trips to Glasgow and edinburgh, Blair Drummond safari, and anything else anyone can suggest. Where would be a good place to stay to do all this? 2 adults and 2 dcs?

Would prob look to stay around Stirling area, would be a good base.

What about Dunblane - lovely small town, 10 m from Stirling, direct trains to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth. Old Churches House is a fairly new small, reasonably priced (I think) hotel right next to the Cathedral. Several nice eating places and shops. Don't know about self catering but am sure there'll be a few. Have fun wherever you end up!

Thanks will check out that hotel. How long do you think we'd need to spend there? Is a week too much?

There is plenty to keep you busy for a week- what time of year though, the weather and daylight hours will influence how much you can get out and about. There are lots of great country parks in the area like this one scotland.forestry.gov.uk/forest-parks/queen-elizabeth-forest-park and Go Ape at Aberfoyle is brilliant if the kids are over 10. Hire bikes and go along the canal to explore, or take a boat trip on Loch Katrine.

Climb the Wallace Monument. Visit Stirling Castle and Doune Castle and Argaty Red Kites.

Dunblane is definitely a good place to stay - another hotel there is the Westlands.
