Where to live - villages west of Cambridge

Just that really. I have a young baby so would like to know about primary schools and local facilities. I am interested in villages to the west of Cambridge and would like to be able to get into central Cam within 30mins max by car. Any advice from local mnetters much appreciated!

The primary schools in Melbourn, Meldreth, Harston, Foxton, Barrington, Bassingbourn, Orwell, Steeple Morden and Guilden Morden are all very good and have excellent reps with their respective secondary schools.

All the villages in South Cambs have their own unique character, some have gorgeous pubs and some have nice independent shops (eg the butcher in Melbourn).

Train stations in Meldreth, Foxton, Shepreth for commuting to Cambridge or London.

Science parks and IT in Melbourn and Harston

It's a brilliant place to live! PM me if you want more specifics

Thanks so much for taking the time to post Pinkcheese. I am particularly interested in areas around Hardwick do you know anything about this village or surrounding. South Cam sounds lovely. Will have to drive over and take a look. Smile

Elsworth, Barton and Bourn are attractive, but it depends what you're looking for. Have you tried MN Local for Cambridge?

Getting into Cambridge by car at rush hour is no fun however.

This may be a bit late now but....
If I were you, I would seriously consider Cambourne as it's great got families. People who don't live there can be very snobby about it but I know loads of people who live there and they all love it. Because it's much bigger than the surrounding villages, there is loads going on and lots of facilities. Plus buses every 20 minutes into Cambridge.

Hardwick is a nice village, with a good shop and a thriving village hall/social club. Bourn is a very pretty village, with a shop, butcher/deli and fab tea rooms. But less for small children to do. Bourn village school is excellent though.

Toft is very community minded but very small and there's no school there. Comberton also has a school but the village never seems to be as sociable as the other villages. I don't live in Comberton though so I might be wrong.

Hi All!
Looking for a substitute for Histon.
Somewhere with a primary and secondary in the village?
Anywhere around Cambridge really. Does anyone know what secondary serves Harston?
Somewhere with good public transport/on the guided busway preferred. Thanks!
