We brought DS here for 4 nights in Spring 2013 when he was 7 months or so. We're back now (he's now 2.2) so experiencing it all again and in different weather!
Things I'd pass on which are hopefully helpful....
- it has rained all week more or less constantly apart from yesterday. Getting around the site and even off site in constant rain isn't easy. We've not hired a golf buggy either time as they're expensive and unless it's raining, the walking doesn't bother us.
- we've self-catered this time and it's worked fine. Kitchen is well equipped and fridge / freezer space just about big enough for all that we need for 2 adults and a toddler for 4 days of meals.
On our previous visit we got an all-inclusive deal which they've stopped doing. We were v unimpressed with the food though, both in the pub and the buffet restaurant (for breakfast and dinner). Only the pricey (but not if you're all-inclusive! ) Carreg Las restaurant was decent (it was very good actually!) and the Wild Wood cafe lunch food was nice too.
The on-site shop isn't massively overpriced in my view. Some items are pricey but others are what I'd pay on weekly shop eg 6 'nice' sausages £2.79, 4 nice fresh burgers £3.99 and 2 free range chicken breasts £3.99. They have a couple of meal deal offers on too eg 2 big pizzas, a bottle of wine and a large ice cream tub for £11. They are generally well-stocked too. The off licence does cans of mixer and spirits for £1.99 each.
When we came all-inclusive each adult got a spa entry included - lovely! - and I booked a massage as an extra. The massage was great but the prices have increased a lot it seems and are now more than I'd pay, despite the convenience.
Now that DS is a toddler, we're really appreciating the outdoor play ground, the indoor adventure centre and the Blue Lagoon pool. Entry to all is free. Circus Zone is currently unavailable due to the Kingdom of the Elves seasonal experience thing but we've free tickets to that and hopefully DS will enjoy it later today.
Accommodation is of a high standard, tastefully decorated and is warm and comfortable. Don't miss the switches for the electric towel rail and underfloor heating in the bathroom though as we did. The bathroom in our lodge is wetroom style so stays pretty wet without the heating on!
I'd still recommend bringing a folding clothes airer if you can as hooks and hanging space for wet clothes is limited.
Also, slippers or slipper socks as the wooden floors are slippery especially for little ones.
An Ikea Antilop highchair and decent travel cot are provided as standard for each 'tot' ( 2 and under.)
On our last visit we booked a baby sensory session that was good and DS enjoyed. This time we booked a messy play session and again this was good. Both sessions were £7 per child, adults free. You stay with the child. They offer more expensive half day unaccompanied sessions - creche - too but we've not done those.
Tenby is a short drive away and worth a visit. We ate lunch at the Baytree restaurant on the main street and it was great. Coffee and ice cream at Cadwallader's later on the same street was good too - lovely comfy seating.
Folly Farm and most other local attractions are only open on weekends in low season. Anna's Welsh Zoo is open all year though.
