Any Northumberland recommendations - especially fossil hunting?

We are going to Northumberland for half term next May.

We normally go to Dorset and visit Charmouth, but fancied a change. However DS1 still wants to go fossil hunting/rock pooling. Does anyone know any good spots?

If you want to look for fossils you would be better off going to Yorkshire. Northumberland has beautiful sandy beaches, but not much in the way of fossils.

This website tells you where you might find fossils.

Not fossils but Bamburgh castle is well worth a visit and the beach next to it is beautiful.
Hadrian's Wall might give you a different sort of archeology fix and make sure you do some star gazing, the night skies are amazing especially at Kielder.
We have had 2 fantastic holidays in Northumberland in the last 2 years, it's Britain's best kept secret!

You get fossils at Whitby about 1.5 hours down the coast from Northumberland.

Failing that there are some very reasonably priced in the gift shop in the old part.
I think I paid £1.50 for mine. Surprisingly the gift shop is really well priced for crystals if you are into them.
