Lake district hotels

Am thinking of treating DS, DIL, 2DGC and DH and me to long weekend in family friendly hotel. Am thinking lake district because not too long a drive for DIL etc. although family friendly would like it to have spa and good restaurant so DIL can get some benefit. Thought DH and I could take DGCs off for some walks etc. We will be visiting UK later this year and thought this might be a nice way of spending time together without putting strain on DIL. In case anyone thinks I'm a domineering MIL I will run this past her before booking it. Woud like to give her a couple of choices - anyone got any good tips?

Thanks

The Low Wood is lovely - it's on a main road but the view across the lake is beautiful and you can cross over and wander along the jetty. It's got a swimming pool and outside hot tub - lovely even in the rain Grin

The Drunken Duck is supposed to be fabulous food wise - but not cheap! drunkenduckinn.co.uk

We stayed at The Smokehouse and used the spa at Low Wood.

The Smokehouse is erm...smoky! Food was lovely but I drew the line at smoked cheese for breakfast.

Daffodil in grasmere. It's only just opened recently and I think there may have been some teething problems but in a good spot.

The samling (never been but had a ££ reputation)
The salutation right in the centre of Ambleside

Will think of others ...

There's a centre parts v near. Would that work? Otherwise the Langdale hotel has lovely spa and has some self catering units as well as hotel itself ( no idea on prices though). The location is gorgeous - lots to do very close to the hotel.

Agree with Swan Hotel Newby Bridge. Kids loved the food, pool, playground, library of kids books, games and particularly the bedtime milk and cookies. But still a lovely hotel for adults. Close to little railway and plenty of things within short driving distance.

Ramps beck on Ullswater is fab. Beautiful location and food service etc. sadly no spa there.
Gilpin lodge is gorgeous but £££.
Low wood is great location and has gym etc and very close to the lake and watersports etc.
langdale chase also very nice.

I can recommend the Waterhead Hotel in Ambleside. We honeymooned there and then went back for our 10th anniversary.

The rooms are lovely, great views and the location is spot on. We had a suite which is suitable for a family and it wasn't hugely expensive.

You can use the local leisure facilities at a sister hotel too. Within walking distance to Ambleside and secure parking.

The north lakes hotel at penrith is very nice. Has a lovely spa and gym and pool etc.
great food and breakfast. We eat there quite a bit.
If you plump for centre parcs at penrith they do have luxury lodges too. The spa is £££ though so be warned !
