Can anyone recommend a self catering place on/right next to a beach, maybe in Devon or Cornwall?

Please! Have been googling with no joy. Plenty of time as thinking of next year [organised] . Ideally would like somewhere which backs straight onto a beach (pebbly or sandy) or is right next to a beach, not too busy, and no pets allowed (bad experience of pet houses in the past). 2 bedrooms ideal, anything involving toddler toys would be perfect not not expected.

Realise this is a specific wishlist, I just can't find anywhere with the right location from my online searches. We have one holiday a year and I'm already hankering to next year so need something to look forward to. We don't even mind going to other places - Suffolk, Norfolk, Dorset, Isle of Wight etc. I know mn can be ace on these things [hopeful]

West Bay in Dorset? There are some self catering apartments on the front facing the seaside and there is a caravan site/camping area about 500 yards from the beach. It was where "harbour lights was filmed. Or how about Lyme Regis in Devon? There are some apartments right on the sea front - hope this helps. Will try to think of some more

Thanks doc will look into those places. We don't want caravan/camping and have discounted apartments in worry of having noisy people above/next to us/lack of private garden. Maybe we're being too fussy. In my head I'm imagining a small house right next to the sea front on a deserted/near deserted beach

There are some self catering houses on the front at Lyme Regis also. Look a bit further along the coast to charmouth, sea town or beer. All smaller seaside resorts. I will try to think of the resort with cabins on the beach.

I can recommend a very nice child friendly 2 bedroom place on a farm about five minutes from the clifftop in Devon if its not too far away? Child friendly with a meadow to play in with a tractor and wooden play furniture. Quite remote but easy to get to from the main road.

Helpful holidays have lots of 2 bed apartments in modern block with terraces overlooking Bigbury beach and Burgh Island. they are really nice, with a price to match. However if you can go outside school holidays then may be a bit more affordable. Stayed in one when DS2 very small and was great.
There is an indoor pool there too. Search bigbury on sea on Helpful Holidays website.

can't recommend specific accommodation but Mawgan Porth in Cornwall might fit your bill. We had a day on the beach here and loved it.

sutton we've been with helpful holidays several times in the past and they've been ace but nothing's jumped out at me with them that is in the perfect location. Somewhere more secluded than somewhere which would have a town/caravan and camping right next to the beach. I'm dreaming the impossible aren't I

Oh, and re: burgh island, we've holidayed a few miles from there a couple of years ago so probably want to explore a bit more than going to the same place.

Kennack Sands in the Lizard peninsula has a lovely beach but the self catering nearby is a caravan site.

Cadgwith has a limited pebbly cove but is beautiful and there are self catering cottages in the village, although parking is very difficult. Classic cottages has a cliff top cottage there. They are a good company along with Helpful Holidays.

Coverack has a larger beach with plenty of self catering cottages nearby, but I prefer Cadgwith.

During high season I tend to find all Cornwall and particularly South Devon cottages very expensive. The South Hams is also a lovely area you might want to look at with lovely beaches. Salcombe is nice, but very pricey.

Thanks elsie . We stayed a few miles from salcombe a few years ago and it was lovely. We're wondering whether to go at Easter rather than summer to miss the crowds and have a more peaceful holiday (and DD will play on the beach in colder weather anyway). Am just going to look into your recommendations now.

I'm staying here right now. I'm looking out over mounts bay, watching the amazing waves and hoping to see dolphins. The village is lovely, we've eaten out every night and not had a bad meal. The beach is right in front of us, down some steps (you would maybe need to carry a toddler). There's loads to do nearby, we've been on long walks, swimming in the sea, art gallery at St. Ives, boating lake, parrot/bird zoo place. Going to see the seal sanctuary tomorrow. I will definitely be coming back.

Wow bee that looks lovely. Now, tell me, what's the beach in front of you like? Is it sand/shingle/rock pools? Is it busy or quiet? Is the house in a quiet position? Is there parking? (sorry, lots of questions but looks lovely).

The sand is big grain/tiny pebble. There is parking with this cottage. It's lovely and quiet considering it's August. I think this far down the Lizard Peninsula is quieter than some more popular parts of Cornwall. Although St. Ives was heaving today when we visited.

Thanks bee I just checked my easter time off (work in a school so dates are non negotiable. We ALWAYS have 2 weeks off from a week end, so 2 full weeks to book somewhere IYWKIM. ANyway, next week we break up on a Wednesday and go back on a Wednesday meaning we can only go away for a week, and Cornwall is too far for a week so looks like we'll be saving that place for 2016 or possibly next summer (I assumed July would be busy but sounds like it might not be as bad as I'm thinking from what you said, price might be too much though so will have to check. It looks so lovely).

we had discounted isles of scilly because of the helicopter/boat ride blue but maybe we should look into it again.
