Where did you stay and would you reccomend it?

I'm looking into 3 nights for dh and I with dd1(3) and dd2(1). We really need a break, just back from self catering which was horrific as was just cooking the whole time, was like being at home but less relaxing.

So I was the thinking of the luxury family hotel chain or calcott manor looks similar. Basically somewhere with baby sitting/listening... Seperate teatimes... Kiddie activities etc. They're all bloody expensive thou.

Anyone been anywhere like that that's good? Don't want too far down south as am in Yorks and dont want massive drive.

Thanks so much!

Yep, been to Calcot. Very nice too. But I think there are many equally lovely spa hotels around that maybe don't quite charge the premium.

I spent a night at Ickworth (for work, it was handy and cheap for the area) which is part of that chain and it was glorious. Amazing grounds (its part of an NT house), lovely pool, fab food. One of the very few occasions I'm way for work and want to stay longer!

I have been to Moonfleet Manor in Dorset..best 4 nights ever..I had a three and one yr old..it's too far south for you but they might have others nearer you..it was bliss for us and the kids!!

Yes, have been to Moonfleet, Woolley Grange and Fowey Hall. I'm a real fan of the LFH group. My favourite is Fowey Hall. Let me know if you've got any specific questions.

We are going to Crieff Hydro next month a drill report back. I understand that they have recently opened a hotel in Harrogate too.

We have been to Ickworth four times, but not for the last few years, Bedruthan Steps five times, and got married at Calcott.

They are amazing when children are tiny, and we did feel we were well rested. Nothing was too much trouble from providing good blackout blinds in the middle of summer, to freshly prepared purée, when we needed it.

We did feel in our last trip to Bedruthan that some of the sparkle had gone, but we couldn't quite put our finger on it.

Been to calcot would highly recommend it. It is not part of same chain as ickworth etc. I have heard Crieff hydro is fab. Had lunch at bedruthan recently as it was a tad holiday inn in terms of the decor in communal areas. Put me off staying there! Think cornwall too far from Yorkshire?

These places are a bazillion times more expensive in school holidays so make the most of them while you can.
Calcot is particularly wonderful. The creche is excellent. I also hear great things about Bedruthan Steps. Both of these v far from York though!

Hated Moonfleet for lots of reasons eg dirty childcare place I wouldn't leave my children, Chesil beach so high you can't see the sea. Mind you it was a while ago.

Bedruthan is fantastic as is Sands. Both in Cornwall and Sands is cheaper.
