going to Drury Lane theatre and would like a nice pre-theatre meal with DS age 9 - walking distance would be nice to theatre

World's your oyster round there. Every third building is a restaurant.

What do you want to eat?

There's a good Pizza Express on Drury Lane - friendly and with big chandeliers - quite Ritzy. Or, a bit further away, Cote Brasserie does a brilliant early evening menu - very cheap and excellent quality. They are on St Martin's Lane.
Also look out for Byron burger chain which is very good and everywhere, or Ed's Diner just off Leicester Square (bit more of a walk.) I went to a lovely restaurant recently - just a door or two up from Lion King theatre. It was called something like Billy's or Bobby's and had lots of child friendly foods as well as more adventurous stuff for adults.

No idea if it is near by but there are two Stradas in the area and they are quite decent priced.

I would second Wagas, Sarastro and Wahaca - yum.

But if your DS prefers plain food what about Belgo's on Kingsway? They have a kids menu that includes chicken and chips and their "beat the clock" deal runs from 5:00 - 6:30 even on Fridays iirc which can help keep the cost down a little (until you factor in the beers...) Grin

Are you going to see Charlie?

Yes off to see Charlie :) DS loves "non kiddie" food but nothing saucy, but is not as adventuras as Mexican. Love vegetables and would polish off all rather than having meat, he will eat chicken and sausages maybe a posh hotdog but loves every kind of veg going and pasta and rice but not chips - shouldnt complain really but sometimes its a pain

Cotes has a lovely menu and price is very reasonable for pre-theatre and great choice will go there I think or maybe BIlls :)

La Piazza on Villiers St is a non-chain Italian and great value for money. Was recommended to us by box office staff at the theatre we were going to and we weren't disappointed.
