HF Holidays - Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight

Thanks to the recommendation of another MNer, I'm looking at a holiday in Freshwater Bay for me and DS, in August.

Anyone been to this particular hotel? I'd really appreciate any reviews! Especially as to what it would be like with no car...

Not stayed there but often visit Freshwater Bay. It's on a bus route so you can easily get to other destinations on the Island. Have a look on the Southern Vectis website for info.

I've not been to freshwater bay, but have been to other hf hotels. Be aware that they aren't like normal hotels. E.g Dinner is one sitting at big shared tables normally, no room service. Are you planning on booking on to a walking / activity holiday or just doing your own thing? The 'guided' holidays are great if you don't have a car cause transport is included. I've taken my toddler a couple of times and its very family friendly (even if the usual guests are a bit older!) Pm me if you want to know more.

Thanks! I actually took the plunge and booked last week. We're only going for 4 nights and doing a guided walk every day so that won't leave much time for anything else, though DS is looking forward to the swimming pool!

We did HF a few years ago in Cornwall. It was fab. Hardly spent anything. Lunches are fantastic. a huge array of sandwiches, cakes, savouries that you fill a bag with to take out on your walks. If it's one of the family weeks then you will have a great time.

We've been to Freshwater before and are going back this Summer. I check the ages of the other children going before I book. We go by train and on our 'day off' we have got the bus to Dinosaur island and also to Newport. There is a circular open top bus route through Freshwater to the Needles and back to Yarmouth. We get a taxi from Yarmouth to the house but on the return journey, HF organise shared taxis to cut the cost. It's a great sociable holiday. There is a games room where the kids hang out and they all seem to go in the pool after the walks and before dinner. There are events after dinner eg quiz and games. Being fully catered it's very relaxing and the only thing I do all week is a couple of loads of washing (less luggage on the train). Hope it's good weather though as not much to do if it chucks it down all week.

We've not stayed with HF but know the location of their hotel in Freshwater Bay - It is in a wonderful position with so much to do on your doorstep - really easy transport links too. If you have time to do other things during your holiday you might want to consider an Isle of Wight Tourist Card www.iowtouristcard.com , we got one and save pounds. Have a great time and we can't wait to go back this summer.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm really looking forward to it now, just hope the weather is decent!
