Hungerford & Marlborough are lovely, you can come off the M4 at Hungerford and maybe stop there for coffee/lunch and a leg stretch along the high street - lots of lovely antique shops to browse, although that might be DD's idea of torture!

Then follow the A4 to Marlborough, pretty road, and a lovely farm shop & PYO just outside Hungerford.

Avebury stone circle just past Marlborough for a good run around.

Then back onto M4 near Swindon for the next leg on the motorway.

There's also Westonbirt Arboretum at the Bath exit which would be good for letting off some steam. Not sure what's there in the way of cafe, loos etc but you could google it.

Hope that helps smile

God sorry, just re-read your post and realised you're looking for overnight stops, not just pit stops. Doh. blush

Anyway, you could always look for nice hotels/B & B's in those places.

Tog Hill House is a great b&b just off junction 18, so Bath turn off. Some family rooms have a mini kitchen which might suit you too. Sort of on a farm so a few horses, chickens etc
