Conwy/Llandudno - what should we go and see?

We've got a few days coming up in Conwy - fingers crossed the weather looks like it's going to be lovely - but we haven't stay in this area before.

I've done some googling - we're right next to Conwy castle so that's a must, but where else can we go? We'll be 2 x ds's aged 11 and 9 plus 1 x grandma (plus me and dp).

I'm wondering about the mountain top zoo??!
And a trip up the Orme on the tram thingy?
Definitely Llandudno for the day, which we all know really well so we've got the whole pier, trashy shops thing planned already.

Any other suggestions please and feedback on what the zoo's like would be marvelous Grin

First stop here
jnlllandudno.co.uk/tubing/
Its tucked away in Happy valley on the side of the Orme and is also nice for a picnic.
If you fancy a 1 hr or so drive the LLyn peninsular has some of the best beaches

We're here! So far have spent a day in Llandudno going up the Orme by tram and cable car (half the family in each!) and have done the pier.

Today has been beautiful - have spent it in Conwy - castle this morning and a walk to the marina and beach this afternoon.

We'd like to find a bigger beach for tomorrow - a short drive away but I'm not sure where?

Thanks all for your ideas!

How short is short? Best beach for miles around is Newborough on Anglesey in my opinion, probably about 35 minutes in the car from Conwy?

Spooky - I've just mentioned Angelsey to dp and she's said it's too far Grin. Dp doesn't like travelling in the car unless it's absolutely necessary - getting here was enough so it's short (under 20 minutes) journeys only...

Aberconwy beach is really nice and just on the outskirts of Conwy. There is parking too.

oh you must go to \link{http://www.portmeirion-village.com/\Portmeirion} - granted it's an hour away but it is AMAZING

also there is a really cool aquarium on Anglesey, about 40mins away

If you want a decent beach in Llandudno, try the West Shore. It is quieter than the pier side of Llandudno

When the tide is out the beach between Colwyn Bay and Rhos is good. Wide and sandy but it disappears when the tide comes in so you'll have to check out the tide times. Make sure to visit the kiosks, the council are trying to shut them down.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is good - a proper zoo, not just a nice park with a few animals.

Have fun!

Thanks all - we ended up going to West Shore which was good as it suited the beach people in the family (dp and ds2 who could have stayed there all day) and the shoppers (me, ds1 and my Mum) who pootled into Llandudno Smile

Will keep the other suggestions in my back pocket though as it's such a lovely part of the world.

We go every year to Black Rock Sands and are always looking for places to stop off at on the way, so these will come in very handy - thanks again! Grin
