Anyone been to the park resort at cayton bay?

I've never stayed at the park resort but have been to Cayton Bay.

The park resort looks ok though.

Long, long trek down to the beach though, even worse on the way back up.

What's the beach like? Is the hill v steep?
Any beach cafes on the way from the caravan site?

Oh and did you think beach is good for under 5s?

Been to the bay but not the resort, it's lovely. No lifeguards and dogs allowed though, which may be worth bearing in mind for your dc.

Very steep, it's just across the road from the park resort though.

It's a nice beach when you get down there though.

Went to Cayton Bay last year, its your typical caravan site and if you go with that expectation its ok.

We never went to beach (seemed to far, down steep hill).

Van was clean (that's the main thing!), beds are usable but uncomfortable (too narrow and you can feel every spring). Entertainment is typical caravan site (drinks expensive), we all went one night only and it was ok, kids went every night and loved it (think they just loved being out by themselves). Me and SIL stayed in caravan, played cards and drank , but that's what we like to do after a full day out and about.

Had a look at the swimming pool and was surprised at how much smaller it looked compared to the pictures. Would be fine for toddlers/younger children.

Love the whole Scarborough area and the park is good as a base for that. Generally we had a great holiday.

(take some big pots and pans if there are a few of you and you plan to cook in the caravan as the ones you are given are tiny!)

last bit of the walk to beach

if I remember right there is an underpass from the caravan park to the path, there is also no cars allowed/parking near the beach (we couldn't find any)

Maybe it will be worth the climb back up!

Is there big differences between silver and gold caravans? What does the plus one have the others don't?

We love that coast but didn't make it south of Scarborough last year. Did you go to Filey, is the beach there good?

Filey beach is fab, and the parking along the beach road is free.

Well it was last year.

There's a great paddling pool for kids on Filey prom too.

gold is generally a 12ft wide van instead of a 10ft silver or bronze. Extra space is worth it.

"plus" differences should be:

newer vans and/or slightly better fittings
central heating/double glazing (not needed in summer)
early check in

you can phone the customer helpline and ask. We've had some lovely new vans which had two loos and were gold and some older vans that were supposed to be gold plus

Sometimes I think it is just down to luck and which van you get allocated.

We were away from the main complex and didn't hear any noise at night at all. Only looked a the pool once when in the complex later at night and it was empty, never went in it.

We didn't do much beach time when we were there as we only had 5 days (other than paddling at Scarborough and the donkeys which ds loved).

We went to Whitby, Filey, York, Flamingo Land (ds(9) really enjoyed this, but it was full of tiny little black beasties the day we went which was a bit yucky, we were constantly covered in them).

Had a pleasant couple of hours at a lavender garden place we spotted when out one day, very basic, just wandering about the gardens on a sunny day. there was a maze and in it were traditional games like giant chess, draughts and jenga etc. Weather was lovely and ds enjoyed it, very relaxing. It would be awful if the weather was poor though!
