Edinburgh to London by Car

Hello we will be driving from Edinburgh to London and plan to stop half way for the night as we will be with my parents who don?t do well on long car journeys. But I really don?t know where to stop. I really would prefer to do the drive in one day but my dad is adamant that it is too long. So I really would appreciate any thoughts of fun places to stop. My DH and DS are not from the UK and I?d also like them to see a bit of the country.

Halfway is Preston. I am sure you can easily find a Travelodge or equivalent.

Or you could go down the other side and York is about half way.
