Hotel in London

It's dh's 40th next year. For his birthday I'd like to take him into London for a night for a good meal, a show/concert and then stay over. we can only do one night as I can't ask SIL to stay with ds for more than that.

Dh is creative etc but... Doesn't really like small funky hotels because he finds them intrusive (?!). He like to be more anonymous so prefers bigger hotels. But... He doesn't like old fashioned hotels either! So, can anyone suggest really nice central London hotels that are relatively large, still modern and a little glam? I am not excessively concerned about cost as its only one night but can't go crazy. So up to about £350 for a night. Is this reasonable?

The Metropolitan is a one of the more contemporary hotels and quite well placed for a theatre trip...

I stayed at the Hilton at Canary Wharf for a show at the O2 recently. It was very good for what it is: a big, relatively soulless chain hotel. The room we had was £118 for the night with breakfast and it had a nice bathroom, very comfortable bed with excellent linen, big telly, minibar with champagne etc (and a kitkat for £3.00!). It was right overlooking the DLR track and we didn't hear it at all. The breakfast was amazing with anything you can think of you might want to eat and all the staff were very helpful. The bar and restaurant were nice and nearly empty so very peaceful for post-concert drinks. I'd recommend it.

W Leicester Square? Very funky and glam
Sanderson or St Martins Lane - both modern, check last minute.com for deals

One Aldwych, Sanderson or The Cumberland are quite awesome and all 3 are bang in the middle of London.

The firmdale hotel group has some amazing hotels in London, they are however smaller properties than the ones above, The Soho hotel and The Haymarket are very fab ;) maybe too small for your Dh though.

Have fun looking, it's half the fun of holidays.

If you are going back to the London and need 5 star accommodation then stay at the Savoy Hotel, it is very luxury and they offer afternoon tea.
