Child free day in Norwich.

Am having a grown up day in Norwich. Any recommendations for lunch? And what's to do?

What kind of things do you like to do? Shopping? Art, history, sport?
What kind of food do you like, budget?

We'd like to get a feel for the city. Are there sights not to miss? Is it a usual city centre or are there some quirky shops? Lunch, well nice but not rip off, I guess 10-15 for a main course. All suggestions welcome

If you start at the Forum you can walk down to the market, through the arcade and around. Quirky shops start the other side of the market (don't be put off by the Tesco Express!) and you can wander through the lanes, to the river or round to the cathedral and Tombland.

Tombland has (IIRC) chain restaurants, there are also loads of chain places in Chapelfield Mall. I like Pulse near the market although apparently it's not been good of late. If you have time (and like art) take a bus to the University - about 20 mins each way - and enjoy the Sainsbury Centre, plus a walk around the lake. The campus, especially in summer, is lovely.

There are also some very good pubs in Norwich, many in the Good Beer Guide, if that's your sort of thing :)

Leave Norwich as fast as possible, head south and come to Suffolk. You'll like it here

The Library is a nice restaurant. Tea and cake at the bicycle shop then a guided punt tour. Norwich shops are fab too

Bus ride tour will be good for getting a feel for the city centre.
Driving in will give you a feel for the rest of the city :).
Strangers Hall is good for Norwich history.
Cathedral grounds, including Cathedral itself very nice to mooch around.
We usually end up having lunch in the Royal Arcade cafe.

Look for the peregrine platforms on the cathedral spire, maybe need a local to point them out.

Jamie Oliver's just opened a restaurant in the Royal Arcade which has a £15 menu apparently. And the Bridewell Museum has just re-opened after a refurbishment. The cathedral's lovely of course, and walking around the Close, as mentioned above. Have fun
