We're travelling on saturday afternoon from london to Liverpool to catch the ferry that night. The original plan was to stop at a restaurant local to Telford for an evening meal to fuel the kids (4 years & 12 months), however, youngest has now got chicken pox, and is as grumpy as anything and I don't want to foist her or her spots on the lovely locals. Could anyone recommend any free playgrounds which are suitable for picnics which are open at 6pm, that we could decamp to to allow the elder to run off steam, the younger to crawl safely, and for us to have our picnic in? TIA.

There's a recreation ground with playground in Haygate Rd, Wellington, just off junction 7 of the M54. The postcode is TF1 !QX. In the summer, IIRC, it is open till dusk.

My garden is near the M6 M54 junction, you are welcome to picnic.

oops - forgot I'm at the olympics - you could still use the garden though.

Many thanks for your responses... The invitation to use the garden is kind of you, sashh, but I think the recreation ground might be more suitable! We'll aim for that and see how we go. Here's hoping the weather holds for us!
