Ideas for holiday destinations within 2 hours of Wembley please?

DH and my boys have tickets for the Olympic football semi final at Wembley in August. Unfortunately, it happens to be in the week when we would have gone on holiday.

Can anybody recommend anywhere within 2 hours of Wembley so they can get there and back in a day? We would like to be by the seaside. We usually rent a holiday home of some sort. Places like Margate or Southend don't appeal but we don't really know that side of the country at all so any suggestions would be very welcome.

TIA

How about Norfolk? Or the south coast? If you go somewhere in Kent you could potentially do a day trip to France too if you wanted.

Thanks for replying.

I should have said we're not keen on the south coast as we live in Hampshire so it is on our doorstep. We were thinking about the East coast but we don't know the area really.

Anybody know anything about holidaying in Kent? I quite fancy a day trip to France . Smile

I'm in Cambridge so know a fair bit about Norolk, will add some links once on comp.

Norfolk is great but absolutely not within two hours from Wembley. If you get lucky with the M25 you may be able to get to Colchester and that stretch of coast, perhaps even as far as Ipswich.

If you go for Kent just bear in mind congestion in and around London during the games, many of the North South routes will be either in available or no go so it might take a very long time for them to travel to the footy.

Thanks for the replies.

We don't know about driving to London. If we were near a decent station they might get the train but then they would be travelling back mid to late evening with DS2 who is only 8 so maybe not the nicest thing for him to be doing. He would be better off dozing in the car.......assuming he hadn't just seen GB win an Olympic football semi final which would be too exciting to allow sleep.

Anybody know anything about Whitstable or Herne Bay?

Hampshire? You could stay in the New Forest (or thereabouts) and get the train up to London for the football.

Driving to Wembley is not a nightmare if you know where you are going. Drive to Kingsbury (just outside the parking exclusion zone), park there on one of the side streets and then get the tube down one stop to Wembley (or the bus). You can then jump on the bus back to Kingsbury, thus avoiding the crowds trying to get into the tube on the way back. This is how we always travel to Wembley these days. See TFL Journey Planner for more details.

Not by the coast but what about Oxfordshire or the Cotswolds. They could go punting, sailing, fishing.Good for pubs too..Smile
