Isle of Wight help

Two familes are off to the Isle of Wight in August. We would like somewhere near a beach so which area should I look at. We are hoping to get a cottage as we have 3 children between us - all girls, 6, 3 and 2.

Thanks

Ryde has a nice flat sandy beach and a boating pond and ice rink and small town. Sandown also has a family friendly sandy beach, a few shops and an oldstyle pier with amusements and a zoo and dinosaur centre etc (but seemed noisy/rowdy at night). IoW is pretty small though so if you have a car you are not too far from anywhere you might want to visit. Ventnor is more upmarket than Sandown but when we were there (a few summers ago)the beach was out of bounds due to horrible, smelly seaweed deposits washed up on the beach.

Ventnor or Freshwater are the nicest places IMVHO. Google luxury apartments Freshwater and you will find a great block of apartments with indoor pool

Try wight locations they have many lovely properties. Mine is one of them, but it is too small for you. Our property is in Ryde which has a lovely wide long sandy beach and lots of lovely play parks for the children.

Shanklin also has a nice sandy beach, and is a bit less noisy than Sandown.

Thank you everyone. I couldn't anywhere in budget for those places. I did find a lovely place in Yarmouth. It says it's 10 mins walk from the beach but I thought Yarmouth was a harbour. What is Yarmouth like? Thanks

Yarmouth is a pretty bustling place. I wouldn't get hung up on the beach (small) as you are never far away from anywhere on the Island. Freshwater Bay, the Needles etc near too Yarmouth but it would not take long (presuming you have a car) to whizz over to Ventnor, Sandown etc which are more "resorty"

Great thank you. House looks lovely so I think I will book it. Is there much to do for the kids in Yarmouth or will we have to get in the car? I am imaging early evenings of looking at the boats for the kids and wine /supping for the grown ups!

The girls will enjoy the fun fair at the Needles. But as I say nowhere is that far away - it's the reason we love it so!
