Bude or nr Axminster mid Sept with a toddler?

We don't know either area at all and just searched for self catering on the south coast! Toddler is not quite 2 and we have a 4mo old as well. We're not sporty/surfers so I wondered if Bude would be a bit pointless but it is cheaper (either a chalet on a holiday park or an apartment) though an hour further to travel. Really we just want to mooch and relax and wander around somewhere new...

Sigh - so long since we had a holiday and it is our first as a family so I want to NOT be dreadfully disappointed...

Well my outlaws live in Bude and I LOVE it there so I'm biased! There are lovely beaches there to walk along, if the weather is decent. Not loads to do in the town, the usual shops incl a Sainsburys. There are a couple of decent curry houses, a Thai restaurant and a posher restaurant called 'The Castle'. I guess you will be driving?
There are quite a few nice towns within an hour's drive from Bude - Padstow is an absolutely beautiful town about an hour's drive from Bude and Boscastle (badly flooded about 10 years ago but now restored) is about 12 miles away. Lots of places for Cornish cream teas too Grin
Hope that's useful! Enjoy your holiday wherever you go

I've just been staying near Bude and loved it. There are lots of lovely places to visit and the beaches are much nicer than Dorset/Devon.

Josierosie Have just been to Bude? Met someone on the beach whose inlaws lived there.

Haha, we visited in June so no, it wasn't me! Glad you had a great time. My DP hates it there coz he grew up there but I love it, and all of Cornwall actually.

I would move there if I could have a house near the beach. Grin
