oh it's lovely! there is no supermarket in wells, so i would stock up on your way. there is a tesco not that far away but i can't remmeber the name of the town it's in...

the beach is just beautiful, you can spend all day there just playing on the sand

how old are the children? if they're about 4 or over then definitely go to bewilderwood. it's very expensive but well worth it IMO

there is a tesco in fakenham, i think that's the closest big supermarket.

the deli and the picnic hut are prob on the expensive side of average iyswim!

there's a lovely fish and chip shop and other places too though

There's a morrisons in fakenham too. Fakenham's about fifteen mins away. Pensthorpe's just outside fakenham and worth a visit too. It's where they filmed springwatch for the previous three years and my nearly three year old loves going there.

(i know your OP wasn't about beaches, but it is a tip for a good beach! Grin )

i agree that Fakenham is the closest food shopping place.

Two fish n chip shops next to each other. Go to the one with the queue going out the door! Its the best fish n chips you'll ever have. Imo! Theres a little playpark over the road where you can eat n then play! Canoeing and other activities next to the campsite by the beach. Little mini train from the town to the beach. There was a massive massive storm in 1953 which flattened the town as it then was closer to the sea, which is why the town is now a mile or so inland. Beaches are brill. Get a kite!

i have just google earthed our cottage - seems were about 4 doors up from a tandoori, there is a cafe 3 doors up that does full english breakfasts according to the sign outside its door and then about 100, up the road is the arkroyal pub which looks the roughest in the whole of wells Grin - so should be good then!

try eating in the nearby yurt it happily takes children. Holkam beach you need to park and walk so wear comfy shoes. There is a great shop called Big Blue worth a trip..

fantastic place

Ollies at the Edinburgh Pub opposite the Costcutter doesn't look all that from the outside but does lovely food and is very child friendly - there's a big room separate from the pub where you can have meals with the kids - think they start serving quite early too in the evenings. The fish and chip shop that has queues out the door is called Frenchs Smile. The deli is pretty expensive but the sandwiches are delicious. The Costcutter is a reasonable size but if you want to stock up agree with the others that you need to go to Fakenham for Tesco or Morrisons. Have a great time Smile

Also a Lidl in Fakenham, for cheap and cheerful holiday groceries :)
There's an indoor soft play area in Wells itself should the weather let you down.
Depending on the ages of DCs, Wells quay is great for crabbing and all the gift shops on the quay sell the equipment.
Sheringham's not far and there is a big indoor swimming pool with slides, wave machines etc called Splash.

I grew up in Fakenham (my dear ol' pa works in Tesco Fakenham btw) and spent most weekends in Wells. Fakenham does indeed have a Morrisons, Lidl, Tesco etc and is about 9 miles away from Wells down the dry road. Holkham beach next door is good (a bit of it's nudist though I warn you) and the Burnhams/Brancaster are worth a visit if you want to stomp along some lovely beaches.

Bewilderwood is superb. The Dinosaur Park too if you're happy travelling a little way. All the best MNers live in Norfolk btw...

Wells next the Sea is one of my favourite places in England.

Holidays there since the age of 8 and we now go with our children.

It's hardly changed in 20 years.

My two enjoyed the indoor play area on the quay when the weather was bad.

You also have to go crabbing off the quay..... a must!
