We are off to Edinburgh next week. Entrance fees for a lot of the attractions are v expensive. Are there any codes/vouchers you can get anywhere to save some money. Also what would be the main attractions you might want to visit with children while there.

Is it just Edinburgh?

If so, the Zoo (although I have never liked it), dynamic earth, open top bus tour, children's museum, the big museum on chambers street.

Keep an eye on Groupon Edinburgh for any vouchers.

What age are your DC? Will you have access to a car or be relying on public transport?

Gorgie City Farm is free and good for little ones, the National Museum for Scotland re-opens on 29th (part of it is open just now which is still worth a visit) so I imagine there'll be lots going on there (and it's free), the Meadows is a great play park and if you've got access to a car East Links Country park is a great day out (if the weather is ok). If you're here next weekend remember there is a royal wedding on the Saturday on the Royal Mile/High St.

Might be worth having a look at the 'kidding around edinburgh' website for some ideas www.kiddingaroundedinburgh.co.uk/.

Do you live in Scotland?

We got a Historic Scotland family membership last year because we're in Edinburgh a lot and it's crazy expensive to visit the castle.

Membership is just over £6 per month and that lets us into all Historic Scotland properties (eg Stirling Castle as well as Edinburgh and various other places local to us). It's any number of children too so we take our niece and nephew as well as ds.

Obv it's not any good for the zoo etc, but it's something to think about if you like going to historic buildings - something like 2 trips to the castle in a year made the membership pay for itself.

Worth checking the Tourist Info at Princes Mall, they do a special pass that discounts entry to a lot of places, including the Castle & Camera Obscura

Weather forecast seems pretty good this week (so far) so a trip to the beach? Both Cramond Beach and Portobello beach doable by public transport.
