Dorset/Devon/Cornwall cottage recommendation please

We would like to go to Dorset/Devon/Cornwall for a week in the summer holidays and I'm not sure where to start looking. We've had a lovely holiday in Burton Bradstock in Dorset before, and also near Padstow in Cornwall. We are 2 adults and 2 children, aged 5 and 8, and we'd like relatively easy beach access.

Can anyone recommend any brilliant cottages they may have stayed in?

these English County Cottages are lovely but I'd be surprised if any at that resort are still available for this August. It is about half an hour from Weymouth beach. We've also used other cottages with them and they've all been lovely.

Thanks pinkteddy - a bit out of price range @ nearly £2k for a week! We were looking at £1k tops really.

I know August is hideous prices really. We went in September when dd was still pre school age. If you want something a lot cheaper how about a caravan? Unless another poster can recommend something cheaper?

Thanks pinkteddy - there are some nice cottages with classic cottages around the £1k mark that look good.

Have a look at //www.coombemill.com

It's a holiday site with farm animals, tractor rides, lots of space etc. We went in feb and think our cottage was about half your budget, and we felt like we really got more than our moneys worth. My girls were eighteen months at the time, but there were children of all ages there. Too cold for the beach in feb, but Polzeath beach is not far away. Have a look, see what you think!

We stay at Wringworthy farm holiday cottages just outside Looe. Has an outdoor heated swimming pool and animals like chickens, donkeys, ducks. The beaches are great nearby too. we tend to go to Seaton which is nicer than Looe beach which can get mobbed in the summer and parking is better at seaton. Had a look on their website ourselves and highest price for 4 is around £800. Saw the comment about caravans and have found them generally not to be cheaper than a cottage. But they do offer lots of group things to do particularly for the kids if that is what you into then its great. Best advice with cottages is always look for the star rated ones as then you know they are going to be OK. If you go through an agency like English Cottages etc then they tend to be more expensive as they charge the owners a fee. The tourist board is always a good place to start. Good luck fingers crossed for the weather!!

Try //www.coombemill.com in Cornwall, it's a child friendly farm, not far from the beach but also a place where the kids can run around without you having to watch them every second! I have three boys and they loved running round with the other kids. They made friends with other children staying there, because we went on the feed run every morning where they got to feed all the animals, and collect an egg from the chickens!
We were there in August, so we did go to the beach a lot and we hired bikes and went on the camel trail but we also had days when we didnt leave the farm - the boys played all day, my husband spent the day by the fishing lake and I sat in peace with a book in the gardens!
The properties are gorgeous, we stayed in a lodge but there were come beautiful cottages too.

We stayed here 3 years ago and thought it was excellent, though it may be a bit of a drive to the beach

I thought this looked like good value at £390 for summer holidays.
