I live in Dorset and need suggestions of places to visit with DP within a 2-3 hr drive but have no idea. Maybe Brighton? Exeter?

We've been to Bath, New Forest, swanage. Any recomendations? City or country is fine, we just fancy somewhere new

Bristol?

Clifton Village for general mosying, Suspension Bridge/Camera Obscura etc. Hotel du Vin for romantic dinner. Sunday morning walking around the Harbourside and grabbing something to eat at the Buttery.

We've wondered about Bristol but I wasn't sure. Sounds promising Smile it's years sine I've been there. Thanks

What sort of things do you like to do? Here is a weblink for you:

I think there is a lot to do here: theatre, arts, culture, shopping, eating out etc.

Also, you can have a city experience of the above but also the Harbourside, Leigh Woods, Ashton Court etc mean that the countryside and outdoorsy stuff is to hand also.

You would be wise to consider the well known hotel chains like Hotel du Vin, Mercure, Holiday In, Radisson Blu etc as some of the smaller chains/individual hotels are a bit suspect and even the Avon Gorge is a bit shabby imo though.

That helps a lot, thank you. City stuff is good - I like just wandering & the harbourside would be good too. I'll investigate further. Thanks for the hotel tip Smile

It's not in the South West but another place that Springs to mind is the Cotswolds, which are an hour and a half from me. It is so pretty there, proper chocolate box England.

I really like Stow on the Wold, I stayed in the Youth Hostel there but obviously you might want somewhere more romantic. There were lovely shops; a really nice coffee shop that had a proper barista and the Eagle and Child pub/restaurant. Bourton on the Water is so gorgeous too.

I would love to go there for a weekend away with my DP Wink

Oh, we did talk about the Cotswolds - will look into that, thanks. I did also wonder about Cardiff, which is neither southwest nor south coast (of England, anyway) Grin
