I won a family ticket to Pensthorpe park in a MN competition () and we thought we'd try to get in a weekend away to Norfolk before DC3 arrives in April, ideally in mid-Feb (not half-term though).
We could stay at Center Parcs in Elveden (been there before) but it looks like a long drive to Fakenham from there.
Requirements for the ideal weekend cottage:
- 2 bedrooms (one twin, other double, ideally a bigger than double bed as we're used to a big bed at home!) - fire/woodburner as it may still be freezing in Feb - walking distance to family-friendly eating places/pub - safe for kids to wander about inside (some i've looked at have very steep stairs, DC are 4 & 2 & I'm pg). - character/period building
We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time. It's very close to Fakenham.
Not sure if it answers all your requirements but it was very child friendly, all equipment we needed, all on one level and had a fantastic indoor heated pool & a games room which was great when the weather was iffy.
Don't remember any pubs within walking distance, but plenty within 10-15 min drive.
It looks like it's been done up and redeveloped a bit since we went, so not sure what the prices are like now but might be worth a look.
