Tutoring Costs

Our appeal to SEND Tribunal has been adjourned so that the LA can cost the provision that they propose. They propose that Y11 dd is placed in a special school but because she is academically able and the school caters for children with MLD and SLD they will bring in tutors to teach dd 1 to 1 so that her academic needs will be met. They propose tutors for GCSE Maths ,English, Science, French and Art and dd would be tutored each day until lunchtime.
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what the cost of these tutors is likely to be please? How many tutors are likely to be needed as well? It's twenty hours per week if she is tutored until lunchtime each day.

I think it's a bit different when the tutors are paid via the LEA to independent private tutors. My understanding from a friend who did this sort of work in the past is that the pay would be in-line with supply teacher rates which are approx £120 for a whole day (6 hours so £20 per hour). However it may be a bit more than that to allow for lesson preparation time and marking.

@catslife so quite possibly £500pw as I imagine the tutor who teaches Maths isn't likely to teach French as well. What a huge amount of money!

Bear in mind that tutoring is intensive. Ratio of 1-1 doesn't need as many teaching hours as 1:30 pupils. Tutors can set work to be done outside tutor hours.

I do similar tuition to this type of work. My service pays me at UPS1 nearly £40ph. So the weekly cost could well be £800.

The service I work for is run by a LEA. I wouldn't have thought that the provision made for your daughter would be given by unqualified teachers.
