Voice Coach

Has anyone had experience with skype voice coaching? I am looking for recommendations for my 14 year old son who is getting frustrated with the way he sounds. He does not speak clearly, and speaks in a rather monotone way. I'm searching for a coach who is engaging and dynamic, and willing to do skype lessons. Many thanks...

Skype is really only suitable for advanced/professional students. There could be anything going by on & a good voice coach will not only be listening to the voice but looking at muscle movements, posture, what the tongue is doing etc. They may need to be hands on (with permission) or help the student to feel certain things them self.

I agree with Alexander - this should be person to person.

I had a few sessions with a voice coach (do a lot of public speaking because I'm an expert in a particular topic. I know I'm a rubbish speaker who probably pains eardrums of listeners). She had me lying on the floor, standing on tiptoes and extending arms, and breathing in and out when she had her hands on my ribcage! I hadn't realised how key effective breathing is to good speaking. Habits like hunching shoulders affect breathing and therefore impact on your pace and tone.

I learned so much - it was well worth it.

I should have added this is dh’s profession. He does do Skype lessons but only with people he’s worked with before or professional actors/singers.
