Has anyone got any examples or experience of tutoring service provided by education authority for children unable to attend school due to anxiety? School have just told me DD14 has been put forward with a referral from camhs for this. Just looking for opinions really if anyone has any!

Hi - in our experience the home tutoring can be great or rubbish! My DS had LEA home tutoring at 2 different times for similar reasons. He was offered the standard 1 or 2 hours a day to cover English, maths & science.

2013: ineffectual tutor & no communication between tutor, school & us, so he wasn't even doing the same things as his peers.

2015-16: the service had a new dynamic head, great tutor, good communication with the school, the tutor even went to lessons in the school to see how they were teaching certain subjects. And they pushed the school to apply for an EHCP which made a huge difference once he was nominally back in school e.g. some 1:1 teaching & a dedicated learning mentor.

He did most of his home tuition through the internet as he often couldn't manage face to face: English & science through sites the school or tutor service subscribed to, & a virtual classroom site where the tutor could set work for him. And of course he could self-educate through YouTube, BiteSize etc. The internet is a god send...

So, despite being out of full time schooling for about 4 years, he's currently sitting his GCSEs & seems to be doing OK.

DM me if you'd like

I've just seen this is in the home ed section. To be clear, my DS wasn't home ed, he was registered with a school even when he wasn't attending – not that I have any problem with home ed
