A question about Hot Wheels Tracks

My DS would like hot wheels for christmas.

Do different tracks fit together, in the way wooden train track bought separately would?

Also, is there a good fairly big starter track you'd recommend for a 6 year old?

Honestly? Ime it will be used once and pushed under the bed after tears of frustration that it doesn't deliver what it promises. sad

Ds was bought 4 over the years so we have given them enough chances but they go in my toy room 101.

I would spend as little as possible just so he can say he got one.

Most straight tracks and loop-the-loops etc fit together, but not the curvy figure of 8 sets. We got a clear zip up bag full of track sections, ramps etc from Toys R Us which was good and allowed lots of different track options.

confused Our Hot Wheels cars and tracks have had hundreds of hours of use over the years!!

A length of guttering works pretty well too if you don't want the hassle of putting the track pieces together though!

You've obviously had better luck than us then. We just have loop the loops that don't defy gravity!

my kids LOVE their hotwheels

we've had various sets and I honestly would say spend more on the proper hot wheels stuff. it's much longer lasting. a lot of the cheaper sets have lots of hard plastic components which easily snap when taking apart.

my lot really enjoy the wall track, but don't get that unless you have somewhere you don't mind it being up all the time :-D

the loop=the-loop sets that fix onto tabble/shelf etc also good

Just got a box this week in Wilkinsons (if there is one near you) almost half price! We have some bits of hand me down track that we make up into to random combinations which my DS loves so have decided to treat him with this for Christmas!

Elimination race , loop and jump and Criss Cross Crash are very popular with ds's (5 and 8). The last one is quite noisy but quite good fun - how many cars can you get going at once?!

This set is crap and you shouldn't waste your money on it.

We haven't had any others.

Thanks everyone. After my op I saw loads of posts about how terrible hot wheels, are so wondering about trying blue track...thanks for suggestion 5mad. Just wondering does it work with hw cars? And can you do different things, with the track?? Thanks

It works wit any cars,'my boys use hot wheels and matchbox cars etc.

Yes you can do all sorts with the track,'they like to put it down the stairs or up in the livign room and make ramps and loops etc.

It also rolls back up and goes in the box, unlike hot wheels track which takes up space even when not built.

We have had lots of hot wheels over the years and it all ended up at the charity shop but have had the blu trac for a year and my boys love it. Dp also loves it!

Very easy to set up and the joy is in its simplicity.
