DS1 is really keen to have some die cast Thomas the Tank Engine characters like this for Christmas this year.

Does anybody know if they are compatible with brio type wooden train track? We have some that is Brio, some form Tesco and some from Woolies that all fits and I don't want to get the trains if they don't!

Thanks for any help you can give me on this!

Hi, my ds got more of these die cast Thomas the Tank characters than i care to think about and brio trains and track from Tesco's.

The Thomas characters do run on the track but do not join up to the trains that come with/for the Brio track,

You have to be careful, in my experience the metal die cast ones are too narrow gauge. These wooden ones definitely fit.

the die-cast Thomas characters are made to run on the "Take-along Thomas" tracks, which are plastic.

Thanks for your replies, I'm a little confused now!

How come the wooden ones are more expensive than the metal ones

The metal "take along" engines do not fit the wooden tracks. You can buy specific tracks for take along engines to fit on, but they aren't wooden.

Brio/Thomas/Tesco etc wooden tracks will all fit eachother and you need wooden engines for them. They are EXPENSIVE!! On the advice of MN, we went for wooden engines - at Christmas/DS's bday, people (relatives) get him a wooden engine so we have built up a huge collection as we have a large family.

Wooden ones are bigger and perhaps more difficult to make. As the name suggests, the metal die cast ones are cast in a mould and painted. The wooden ones are made of little bits of wood stuck together, iyswim.
