Parents of Lego addicts... tell me how to organise it so that I’m not walking on a carpet of Lego all day every day?

My oldest loves Lego. Would play it every minute of every day if life didn’t interrupt Grin

As you can imagine he has a lot as he gets gifted it loads (every birthday, Christmas etc). I have it in boxes, but he tips it on the floor as soon as play starts. Once a week, we do the mammoth task of cleaning it up. But it’s almost pointless. His bedroom floor is a carpet of Lego!

So... help! What Lego play solutions are there? Storing it in boxes is fine, but it gets tipped out every single time. There must be another way. And I’m not sure there’s a table big enough... or is there?

Anyone solved the Lego mess problem?

when he wants to play he loosens the drawstring, and plays on the playmat. when he is done, he bunches up the drawstring again. You could get several and just brush the lego parts onto one of the mats

Those look like a good idea! Two might work! Faced with joint cleaning his Lego tonight (he does it while I help - and he complains for a lot of it!), I’m desperate for a solution!

How old? My rule for our 5 year old is that he tidies the Lego at the end of the day or I sweep it up and give it to the charity shop. Never had to actually do it!

Haha I like that, Remy! I definitely turn a blind eye for too long until a week goes by and it’s so, so bad! He’s pretty good at tidying (with a small amount of help), but he doesn’t like it!

We used to have a parachute (like they have a kiddy soft play) although I did threaten to use an empty paddling pool.

We have Really Useful Drawers in multi colours but you do have to put them in.

We have one of those train set tables still, that have a lip around the edge. All Lego is played with on there and it doesn’t then end up on the floor. We don’t organise it in any special way, other than scooping it into containers. But dedicating the table to Lego means you don’t have to tidy it away
