My pal Scout

Quick question for you lovely lot. I feel I know the outcome, but would like to see opinions and a bit of inside info.

My son has my pal scout and he has proven popular over the last few years. I wanted to get my youngest son one too, but am not keen on them having the identical ones. I've been looking at getting him the purple one (violet) instead. General consensus is that violet is the girls version. Now this doesn't bother me, but I also don't want to open the door for years of justifying myself either because I'll get increasingly irritated and go mad (I'm sure no one would question a girl playing with scout). Hubby not keen, but cannot articulate a reason.

So would you get your son violet, or not?
And also, if you have violet, is there anything that is different from scout? I assume the names list is not gender specific to each toy.
