Hi
We are taking some people out to lunch in London in a couple of weeks.
They are American and have never travelled before.
Would like somewhere nice but not too pricey to take them.
Needs to have a good vegetarian menu

Any ideas please?

Tryingoutanothername Mon 21-May-18 23:29:50

Btw we are not from London either!

choppolata Mon 21-May-18 23:36:43

London is a big place. Which area?

Puffycat Mon 21-May-18 23:40:35

Can you narrow the area down a bit?

Tryingoutanothername Mon 21-May-18 23:53:11

Somewhere central/touristy so that we can show them some sights afterwards for a few hours.

Somewhere in Borough market would be good. Or Wahaca on the south bank?

Tartyflette Tue 22-May-18 00:12:11

Borough market and the south bank are great -- loads of bars, places to eat, walk, green spaces and views of the river. Tate Modern too. Lots of restaurants, even most of them, will have vegetarian options, depends on your budget.

Sartoria in Saville Row, Italian, so vegetarians are just about tolerated, but there will be something they can eat! I don't eat meat so usually have fish. Courgette fritter things divine. 3 courses about £30 .

Magdalene just down from London Bridge, quiet, lovely food, again vegetarians will have something on menu! If they have fish soup on the menu have it.

Skylon, bit noisier than other two, Festival Hall area, good value. Bigger restaurant so wider menu than first two.not sure if they do lunchtime deals.

Savoy Grill, amazingly they do a three course set menu for £30! Tiny portions, so leaves room for afternoon tea somewhere later. They also have a vegetarian AND a vegan menu, but not sure how much.

With all of these the wine and coffee will shove the price up, but for nice restaurants in central London they are still bargains.

If you want really cheap but good freshly cooked food then the restaurant in the crypt at St martins in the fields at Trafalgar square is unbeatable. Generous portions, very reasonable prices (about £10 for a huge main including vegetables) they also do soup, salads, sandwiches as well as two or three hot mains one of which will be vegetarian. Very atmospheric, the crypt is where they buried people so floor is ancient tombstones. The restaurant helps to support the work they do with homeless people so you get a feel good factor as well as a fed good factor!

Just checked Skylon, they have a lunchtime set menu, three courses £30 , and an a la carte vegetarian menu!

Skylon is v good

Also depending on where you want to go, Tibits veggie buffet, behind Regent Street, is nice but it is casual

I think Ivy Cty Garden is lovely and has good veggie choice

Hope you have fun.

And the Magdalen has closed! Weeping and gnashing of teeth, it was fabulous, the reviews are still on trip advisor to rub salt into the wound.

The food at Salt Yard is delicious, and they do a good selection of interesting veggie tapas.

Tryingoutanothername Tue 22-May-18 07:58:15

Ooh thanks. Will be googling them all later!

choppolata Tue 22-May-18 19:45:21

Oxo Tower brasserie have a veggie/vegan menu as well as a meaty one. Then Tate Modern, the Globe and a swift one at the Anchor Bankside. I would avoid Tibits personally, the food is great but can get frighteningly expensive - you pay by weight of each plate.

For a bit of glamour/wow factor try Brasserie Zedel at Piccadilly. Atmospheric and nice menu (look online for the menu).

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish Tue 22-May-18 20:40:46

Google is your friend..
Google restaurants in the area you are going, and it should list the restaurants...

Then Google to see if you can view their menus online (you often can see their menus and prices)

And lastly look at the reviews , as tempting as food can sound on menus, if it has a ton of bad reviews it likely won't taste good...so check reviews grin

Also just want to say I'm vegetarian and I'll eat anywhere (most restaurants serve a vegetarian option)..

MrsPatmore Wed 23-May-18 15:51:12

Forgot to say Brasserie Zedel has a seperate all day vegetarian menu.

Tryingoutanothername Thu 24-May-18 21:28:33

I've been to Brasserie Zedel following a recommendation in here before. It was really lovely and good value.
Just wondering if we should show them somewhere with a more British feel rather than French as its their first time here?

robotcartrainhat Thu 24-May-18 21:30:53

Mildreds in Camden is lovely!

Davros Thu 24-May-18 22:33:11

Côte at London Bridge is in a great setting and does a good set lunch at a very reasonable price. Although it's a chain, that particular branch is nice because of the location. You can go through Hays Galleria and thence to Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market, riverside and all the joys available

DoraJar Thu 24-May-18 23:05:13

Cafe Murano - Covent Garden (so very central)

PanPanPanPing Fri 25-May-18 07:35:00

Shampers in Kingly Street (just behind and parallel to Regent Street) is lovely www.shampers.net. Although looking at their menus, it appears that the vegetarian options might be slightly limited.

choppolata Fri 25-May-18 19:24:25

Anchor Bankside fish & chips / veggie thing & chips?

drspouse Fri 25-May-18 19:25:35

Not Wahaca if you want British then!

applecatchers36 Fri 25-May-18 19:29:56

Ottolenghi Spitalfields his menu has lots of good veggie options
You are in Spitalfields so could go around the market and shops
