Did your baby have a dummy?

I've heard bf babies don't have dummies, is this true?

Trinity36 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:47:26

Breastfed both of mine, they both had dummies xx

Lilacblue99 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:47:51

Ah thank you x

Whippetmamma Mon 05-Feb-18 16:48:09

DS was BF, wouldn’t take one until he could put it in and put his mouth himself.
My neices were also BF and one of them refused a dummy and the other one loved it.

Am breastfeeding DC 3 as I write this. She has a dummy with no problems. Older 2 didn't because they didn't show any interest

I was meant to post in 30 days only.
I've requested it to be moved.

Mine breast fed and had a dummy

BeautifulLiar Mon 05-Feb-18 16:48:51

Two had dummies
Two didn't

Mine didn't but they wouldn't take them - one breast fed one combi-fed and neither would entertain a dummy. My sister breast fed and her daughter loves her dummy

RFM3 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:49:26

All three of mine breastfed and all three had one.

Mermaid36 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:49:40

My twins had dummies in NICU to help with their suck/swallow/breathe reflex, but quickly lost interest in them once we got home. By 6 months old they couldn't have cared less about dummies

PointyBirdsAnointyNointy Mon 05-Feb-18 16:49:53

I never offered him one.

Ohyesiam Mon 05-Feb-18 16:50:00

Neither took a dummy

Booboostwo Mon 05-Feb-18 16:50:15

Breastfed both of mine neither accepted a dummy.

Katedotness1963 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:50:15

Breastfed both of my boys, neither took to a dummy.

Fruufruu Mon 05-Feb-18 16:50:24

I avoided giving my baby a dummy while bf because we gave it a try and it made him have trouble with his latch while feeding.

Runningoutofusernames Mon 05-Feb-18 16:50:30

Plenty do. Mine never did, because they saw it as a poor second and would rather comfort feed instead - was a little tiring, but on the plus side I lost my baby weight really fast wink
They say not to do it in the early weeks as it can interfere with establishing bfing (although there are some teats that are meant to be better at not confusing them). Someone with more experience will probably be along to help on that bit!

Breastfed both, no dummies.

We're just moving this thread over to 30 days only at the OP's request.

Mine was bf and had a dummy.

Sidsreadingdiary Mon 05-Feb-18 16:51:45

I exclusively breastfed both of my DC. DC 1 had a dummy while he had a feeding tube and then I took it away. DC2 never had one.

Allfednonedead Mon 05-Feb-18 16:51:54

Breastfed all three, one refused a dummy entirely, one wasn’t very interested, one still misses her dummy hugely (nearly 5).
Some babies are more sucky than others.

Strokethefurrywall Mon 05-Feb-18 16:51:59

Yep, both my breast fed babies had dummies.

DS1 wouldn't take one until he was about 4 weeks old.
DS2 took one from 6 hours old. He didn't care what kind of nipple was in his mouth as long as he could suck something.

ReelingLush18 Mon 05-Feb-18 16:53:05

Neither of my breastfed DCs had dummies as babies.

Cupoteap Mon 05-Feb-18 16:53:19

Dummies and one took to their thumb hmm
