Hi - sorry to be negative in the face of your positive drive to lose weight, but it's important to note that coconut oil is pretty much a pure fat & as such has 9 calories per gramme. It doesn't strike me as a great thing to include as a catalyst to weight loss.

Thanks for your response, I thought that to but have read a lot of positive reviews especially around insulin levels and hypothyroid levels. Just wanted to see if anyone had tried it.

Interesting, OP, what's it supposed to do for hypothyroidism?
Logically it shouldn't cause insulin peaks as it's not a high GI carb, but don't take that as a medically proven fact!
I am sceptical of 'wonderfoods' but do accept it is versatile & delicious (especially on a rice cake with a teensy but of Nutella!)

I think coconut oil it brilliant as an alternative to other oils when frying or to put into flapjacks etc but only because it is slightly more nutritious than other oils. Not because it is a super cure that will reduce weight.

I use coconut oil and drink coconut milk in smoothies but I also have a very well balanced diet (apart for tonight) and exercise in varying amounts daily.

If you want to loose weight I'm afraid it's the classic etc better and move more that will it.

Coconut oil is a saturated fat made up primarily of medium-chain fatty acids. Also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), medium-chain fatty acids are known to increase metabolism and promote weight loss. Coconut oil can also raise basal body temperatures while increasing metabolism. This is good news for people who suffer with low thyroid function. This is what I found about hypothyroid benefits

It is a wonderful thing and adds great flavour in place of butter but it has the same if not more calories. I've not really heard of it a a weight loss aid I have to say.

I happen to be using a Dale Pinnock book as a laptop stand! and he says:

"Coconut Oil is a Medium Chain Triglyceride(MCTS). They are rapidly absorbed and so less likely to be stored by the body. There are mainy claims that MCTs can actually cause the body to burn fat. I have reservations about this, since that will very much depend on the general composition of the person's diet. However, it is readily used for energy so if you use it for cooking, you will burn more than you store. It is a good choice for those watching their waistlines but dont be fooled by marketing."

Not sure if that helps at all!
