Weird telephone calls

Wondering if anyone can come up with a logical explanation for the weird phone calls I have been receiving. So my dh and I are not sure but about eight to ten years ago I started to receive telephone calls, always from the same number, where a guy would say 'hello Elliot' I would obviously say sorry who and he would say 'Elliot is that you'. I would say wrong number the first few times and hang up and then it became quite frequent and we think it was always Saturdays it happened. So I blocked the number and then I would randomly unblock the number and they would start up again. My dh got quite annoyed and phoned the person back but again just saying hello Elliot and no other response. It wasn't an old voice if that makes sense. I mean it wasn't an elderly person who had got the wrong number. It became quite sinister. Again blocked and then every couple of years when I got a new phone and the number would be unblocked it would start up again and I would block again. You kind of forget about until again I just got a new phone after three years and on Saturday one of the first calls I had was again the same guy asking for Elliot!!How is this possible??? How would the said person just happen to try the number the very Saturday I got a new phone and am I right to now feel creeped out by this? What would you do?

Have you ever texted the number? Saying:

'No one called Elliot has this number. Please stop calling.'

Alternatively it could be some messed up bot.

Or, change numbers.

Why do you keep unblocking it? The obvious solution is to block it permanently or change your number, surely?

Has your number changed in all that time?

But yes that is really weird and I wouldn't like it either. Nothing else is said except hello elliot? Is it a recording or deffo a real person?

Yes I'm sure we did this a few years back and I do remember my husband phoning and telling them to stop calling but again just this weird Elliot is that response so we just blocked and thought it's someone playing a joke. It's only now really that it made me really uneasy and creeped out actually.

Does the voice always sound the same, say the exact same thing? I was thinking along the same lines as coriander and it’s some sort of recording.

No actual clue though it is very strange!

Haven’t you ever rung the number back and explained?

It is weird but I'd just change my number!

It's not E.T though is it?

Notapheasantplucker · 04/12/2020 20:38

That sounds creepy. Either change your number or don't unblock it again!

X post. Have you googled the number?

Number has stayed the same and it automatically unblocks when you get a new phone. I only at the start unblocked to get the number and to be honest to see if they would call again. I won't unblock at all now but the fact they called on Saturday has totally freaked me out as you suddenly realise how long it's been going on for.

Is DH a spy and this is a message for him?

I’m hat is VERY weird.

The only thing I can offer you is someone with a mental illness who rings your number every Saturday every week religiously. So has been following the same pattern for years and only occasionally gets through.

Definitely not E.T but thanks for the suggestionHmm

Googled it years back and it came back a company profile in the southwest and also a men's football team came up. Not the actual company telephone number. I would need to unblock it and get the number and look it up again.

That's when we thought it was maybe a joke being played.

Again I don't unblock it. It happens when I get a new handset.

Next time say ‘hang on, I’ll just get Elliot for you’ and see what the voice says.

I would be going to the police. That is very scary.

grassisjeweled · 04/12/2020 20:47

Say :'Elliott here'

Report
JemimaJellyfish · 04/12/2020 20:47

Yes, just get your DH to say "Yes, Elliott speaking..." and see what he says.

Have you ever googled your number and the word Elliot?

weirdcallsforme · 04/12/2020 20:48

City I wish I had done that! I was just so shocked as I was busy in the kitchen and just quickly answered and then when I heard the same voice I remembered and quickly hung up on him and then we started to talk about it and we were just in disbelief that someone could keep a prank up for that long. It doesn't make sense at all! No explanation other than they regularly call the number and see if they get through but who would do that over years??

I was going to suggest saying, 'Yes, this is Elliot.' But it is really creepy.

I would do exactly what citycitycity says. Get your husband to come on the line and have a chat with them, as Elliot.

As paradise said, someone who is mentally ill. My friend was harassed for years by a mentally ill woman. The woman believed she was a singer from an 80s pop group. It was very scary and the police ended up being involved. This lady also followed certain patterns in her behaviour.
