Any Scary Spooky Ghost Stories for Halloween 2019?

As Halloween is fast approaching, does anyone have a scary spooky ghost story they'd like to share? Halloween Smile

I'll start.

Years ago, my friend moved into her first house. It was a 4 bedroom that she was sharing with 3 other girls. I helped her move in and that evening we all ordered pizza and stayed up chatting late into the night. I ended up staying over as was too late for me to get home. I stayed on the sofa, but couldn't sleep. I had this very uncomfortable feeling and felt I was being watched or at least that I was not alone. The feeling was overwhelming and I started to feel unsafe or that I was in danger but I couldn't say why, it was just a feeling of being unsafe. I noticed the lights flicker a few times.

The next morning, as everyone was getting up my friend asked me how I slept. I said I hadn't slept and told her how weird I felt and I didn't like the house. She said she felt the same and the other girls said they didn't like the house but it was so cheap compared to other places and they all got on well so they didn't feel they could move out. Everyone had noticed problems with the electricity at one point or another.

As I was leaving, we all walked to the front garden and I started walking to my car in the drive when a neighbour came out and waved hello. I don't know what came over me, but I approached him and asked if he knew the history of the house as we were all feeling a bit strange staying there. He laughed, said he wasn't suprised as the family who previously lived there had been murdered in the house as they slept. Apparently a man had come in through an open window, killed the family and stayed in the house for a few days before the bodies were discovered. Halloween Shock

We looked up the information he gave us about the family and what had happened, and the story was true. Two of the girls moved out that week. I never went back to that house again. I still get shivers thinking about having slept there that night. I don't know if I was feeling the presence of the family or the killer?

Anyone else want to share their experience?

Can you link to the report? Entire family house invasions and murders are still (thankfully) rare.

That's very sad @INeedanInterestingUsername,
please share the link.

I have nothing to add but love reading these.

My friend lives abroad and I had gone for the summer. So this didn't happen in the UK. The last I heard she still lives in the house, so sorry I don't want to post her address online. What happened in that house was very distrubing and I think it's left some sort of 'presence' there. I could certainly 'feel' something and I would never want to go back there again.

This happened to my father coming up on four years now. His mother died in the nursing home. The next day, my dad was in his home office (we have a ranch house, all rooms on one floor), alone. It was mid-morning and my mom was out doing some early Christmas shopping. My dad heard the front door open, heard several footsteps, and then his mother’s voice clearly calling his name. “Tom?” He thought, Oh hell no. No way.

He called my mom’s name, thinking that, logically, it had to be her, back from shopping. No answer. He got up and went to the front door. No one was there and the front door was closed. My mom’s car wasn’t in the driveway.

Dad went back to his office and did not move until my mom came home an hour later, and he told her what happened.

So sorry to hear about your Grandmother OutOntheTilez. Flowers

Halloween Confused I think I would be spooked to hear someone calling my name. Did your dad feel scared or comforted to hear his mother's voice?

Thank you, INeedanInterestingUsername. My dad and his mom were never extremely close, and toward the end they argued a lot as they were both very strong-willed. So it freaked him out to hear his mother’s voice. I hear it’s fairly common immediately after a loved one has died. Same thing happened to my FIL – he heard my MIL’s voice every morning around 5:30 for a week after she died. Same thing, just calling his name.

If that happened to me, I'd flip out; I know I would. After hearing my dad's story, I became scared that my grandma would decide to pay me a visit Shock

I've heard this as well. I'm fascinated by this, but also I know I too would be terrified if it ever happened to me!! Halloween Grin

It is fairly common in my experience to hear and see loved ones who have died. Especially if it was either unexpected or sudden.

It's not real. I expect it's a way of processing loss and grief. I have lost too many family and friends prematurely sadly. I remain convinced death is the end.

Still enjoy a good scary story though!

I've never seen a ghost nor have I ever met anyone who has seen a ghost so I am a skeptic. but I've been places before where I felt strange then go look up the history and it's an old battle field or something with lots of death and gore. I'm not sure how you can explain that. The knowing without knowing.

Sorry for your loss MsPavlichenko. Have you noticed a difference in any experiences you may have had and whether the person died suddenly or not? (If you don't mind me asking)

I'm not sure what I think tbh. I agree some places have an eery unexplained 'feeling' hallohallohallo but I've never seen or heard a ghost either. I guess it's the mystery that makes it all so interesting. Halloween Grin

I think there is a difference. Sudden deaths leave us feeling both raw and shocked even before the grief.

I probably did have more "experiences" in those circumstances as opposed to the more expected deaths of my grandparents for example.

I can see where a sudden death might possibly play tricks on the mind MsPavlichenko. I think all of the deaths I've experienced were very elderly relatives mostly with ill health and one relative who had a terminal illness died after about 3 years or so from diagnosis. So none unexpected as such.

My feeling is that we see significance in things that are probably random or coincidence. Stuff we wouldn't even notice other times. But we are consumed (maybe unconsciously) with our loss and that influences everything. I also think we can be exhausted if we are not sleeping/resting properly. And of course most importantly we want the person to still be there and not dead.

As I typed that the spelling predictor thing gave me an option of my lovely late cousin's name. I had of course been thinking of her as I wrote the last posts. That's an example. It will have been suggested before I'm sure but I wasn't paying attention/thinking of her then.

My dad died when I was a teenager, and my nan developed severe Alzheimers shortly after. She forgot my dad had died, and would repeatedly ask every 5 minutes where he was, and why wasn't he coming to see her? I was eventually able to get her into care, where she spent the last few years of her life. I would drive up to see her every week. On the last weekend I saw her, I just knew that I wouldn't be seeing her again. I don't know how. It takes an hour and a half to drive home, and about 2 hours later I got a call from the home to say she had passed. When I went up to see her/sign the forms, the owner told me that as they had been helping her up the stairs, she had turned to the front door, and said "oh, there you are! Where have you been?" and when they asked her who she was talking to, she replied "my son. He's come to take me home". Cried my eyes out at that.

That's interesting MsPavlichenko. You're probably right, the name possibly pops up frequently but you only notice it when you're thinking about that counsin which would make the coincidence significant at that time. It makes me wonder about all the coincidences and signs we miss or are not aware of at all the other times they happen.

YouJustDoYou That is so sad. "my son. He's come to take me home" I have tears at that!

On the last weekend I saw her, I just knew that I wouldn't be seeing her again. Have you ever had that feeling before or was it just that weekend? (if you don't mind me asking) So far we've mentioned being in a place that we knew something had happened or seeing someone that has passed (past events), but you've experienced a future event. It's so interesting to me how the mind works and how we can have a 'knowing' feeling.
The knowing without knowing. This.

Just after my DF died my DM said she was in bed one morning and heard him say in her ear "I'm alive."

Wasn't much she could do she just looked thoughtful about it and yes it was just the once. She did have some strange activity in the house a little later and wondered if it was my dad but I don't think he would have done anything malicious to her.

Would probably class this as comforting and not scary but for about four years after my nan died I would quite often smell her very distinctive freesia talcum powder, (probably last widely available in 1970) when feeling down or stressed.
Have also had what I would call visits from just deceased relatives/friends. For example baby gate collapsing (without baby), waking to door opening and shutting, waking up inexplicably in a cold sweat at what were later confirmed to be times of death.

My gran died a year ago. When she was in hospital we were all there for the few days before she passed. The day she passed a few strange things happened. At one point my aunt said something to her about my granda waiting for her. Then we heard a knock on the room door (bearing in mind there were at least 10 of us in the room at the time), my brother opened the door and no one there. We brushed it off and put it down to someone knocking and realising it was the wrong room.

A few hours later there were about 6 of us in the room with her and my mum was talking to my gran. She said to her 'You just haven't found the light yet' literally when she finished speaking all the lights in the room came on (we had been keeping it pretty dark) no one was near the light switch and despite how hard we tried we couldn't get the lights back to how they had been before.

For some reason 'after my nan died I would quite often smell her very distinctive freesia talcum powder when feeling down or stressed' and I think 'How lovely'.
But 'I heard a voice' 'I heard an unexplained noise' 'I saw something' and I think 'How spooky' Confused
I wonder why the smell stopped after 4 years Graymare?

xTinkerbell Did your gran notice the knocking or the lights?
