Or is it wishful thinking a dying brain hallucinating or something else
What do you think? Any experiences you're willing to share?

Hard to say.

My husband 'died' twice following an RTA.
And was brought back at the scene and later in casualty by the ambulance crew.
He said there was nothing at all on the 'other side'

I don't believe in any of that stuff, but it must be comforting if you do believe in an afterlife etc.

Seems to be some peoples experience but who knows if it's really real (whatever that means).

Anita Moorjani is very interesting on her near death experience. I haven't read her book yet and have only watched this TED talk after someone told me about her. I am keeping an open mind - I would of said there is no such thing as life after death until my DB died recently and I "heard" him speak to me. So now I don't know what to think

I can only tell you what I saw the day my dad died. He had a catastrophic stroke. We were all waiting for what we knew was the inevitable.

My mum held his hand and said come xxxxxxx (my grandma his mum) come and get your boy. Dad smiled turned his head to the corner of the room, the first purposeful movement he'd made since the stroke (He never regained consciousness) and then he passed.

Hey, long time lurker here but first time poster.
I have never believed anything happens but last year when my dad passed away at unfortunately only 53, a few hours before he said to me and my sister 'your grandad is here why haven't you spoken to him or offered him a drink?' And pointed to thin air, he then later asked why my uncle came all this way to see him when he will be fine (they lived 200 miles apart and passed away 2 years prior)

yes someone will always be there. Lots of nurses see it a lot in patients and also see the deceased that have come to help them crossover.

I was with my MiL when she died, she was in a coma for a couple of days she then sat up and spoke to her sister that had died as a child 65 years ago. She put her hand out to her and smiled.

These are lovely stories and give me hope. I lost my dad last year and it's still so difficult.

My Gran died a week before my Aunt passed. Before my Aunt passed she said that she saw my Gran at the end of the bed waiting for her.

I don't really believe that everyone that ever lived is hanging round in heaven. But all the atoms that made us still exist, but in different forms.

I'd like to think that somehow there's something in our life energy that connects us to our loved ones, whether we are alive or dead.

Thank you for posting this - my dad died 2 months ago and I desperately want to know he is ok and that he is with others that passed before him. It gives me great comfort.

I was with my DF when he died. It was brutal and very final.
At his wake I was standing opposite a mirror and I saw him out of the corner of my eye in the mirror. He always wore a very distinctive colour jumper and I made sense of it by telling myself that someone in the pub must have been wearing the same colour - I scanned the room but no.
I don't usually believe in "woo" stuff but I know what I saw. So, not really answering your question but if that happened then why not?

I was there for my great aunts final hours.

She lunged forward and said 'my boys!' at one point as she was struggling to breathe. Her husband and son had died within days of each other years previously.

It made me feel even sadder. Her marriage hadn't been great and much later in life she'd had a lovely companionship with a widower, and said it was the happiest she'd ever been. If there's anything in the beyond I hope it allows people to relive happiest times.

I believe that when someone is close to death their thoughts are with loved ones who have passed away. I think that your subconsious knows that you are dying. Hours before my Grandma died she spoke of her sister and how much she missed her. Perhaps she had seen her?

I believe family members visit us at other times too. I have twice seen my DH's grandparents watching over my DH while he slept in bed at night. I woke up in the night and they were there looking at him - standing by the bed next to him - I couldn't speak or move or react in anyway. Terrifiying at the time but somehow I floated off to sleep again. I never met his Grandma but knew his Grandpa so I knew who there were. They both looked a lot younger than they were when they died. Never told him - I think he'd freak out.

It gets easier. It never goes away though but you do .........I can only describe it as learning to live with it.

I still have times over 10 years later that I go to pick up the phone to tell my dad something, times when I turn to talk to my brother and it takes my breath away because he looks so like his dad....... but it does get easier

I know someone who worked on a hospital ward where a lot of people died (nothing sinister, btw, they were old-ish, ill people) and she said, without fail, 'someone' would come for them at the end.

The cynic in me would suggest that it's the brain releasing some form of chemical to make the passing from life into death easier. However, how wonderful it would be, even if only for a few seconds, you were reunited with your loved ones who'd gone before you.

My dear dad died in January this year. A couple of months before he passed, he told DM & me that he had dreamt that his father had visited him, saying, " just to see how you are, my lad, I am away now, back to your Ma, my lad" that's what he used to call my dad, my lad.
It gives me comfort to hope that his Ma & Dad were waiting for him, along with his beloved dogs.

I really hope it's true. But honestly I think being dead will be just like before we were born. No consciousness, nothing.

My dad had a massive haemorrhage a few years ago. His blood results were properly incompatible with life and yet he managed to survive. He's fit as a flea now but adamant that his mum who had died years before was with him in the A&E department looking after him. He's not remotely woo.

First of all, no one dies and then comes back. They may have been near death, but no one who dies comes back.
