I don't have any of my own, but love these short two sentence scarers!

You hear your Mum calling you from the kitchen, she sounds terrified. As you go to head down the stairs you hear your Mum whisper from behind you 'Don't go down there, I heard it too'.

I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.”

I can’t move, breathe, speak or hear and it’s so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely, I would have been cremated instead.

Just to get us in the mood!

I've told this story on here before. On the morning when my Nana died I am convinced I briefly saw her looking through my parents living room window. It was a very brief glimpse, but enough to convince me it was her. She look as she did when I was little 25 years ago, with darker hair and the blue coat she always used to wear.

The significance was, she lived near my parents and would often pop in on the way back from collecting her pension or going to the shops, but beforehand she'd look through the front window to see of were in.

I also dreamed of her a few days before her funeral. In it she was pottering around her kitchen as she always used to do before she was unable to walk around.

About a year after my nan died my dh took me to a local market shop. I found myself drawn to a handbag & ended up buying it even though I didnt need it & was never a handbag kind of girl.
When I got it home I took out the few newspaper pages that the shop had put in it to fill it out & found the birthday remembrance advert for my nan my dm & auntie had placed in our local newspaper!

Walking amidst the ruins of an old abbey. I heard the chanting of monks and a strong smell of lavender Confused On looking up the history at home afterwards, I read that they used to grow lavender in the gardens for medicinal use.

My childhood home had a ghost. I didn't actually see anything but was terrified of going to bed because I could feel a presence. I still get chills to think of it now, 30 years later. Odd things would happen, objects moving around, missing objects reappearing in odd places, lights switching on, or off. My parents were on the verge of calling a priest to bless the house when they decided to move instead. A neighbour helpfully told us that the previous occupant died alone under mysterious circumstances but we think (hope) he was exaggerating.

I was a barmaid in a 15th century pub which was well known to be haunted.

One night just after I started I was locking up with my now DH downstairs and nobody else in the pub, I was wiping tables upstairs when I saw something in the mirror, looked up into the mirror properly and there was a man, turned round thinking maybe someone had been in the loo when i locked up but there was no one behind me and I decided it was my imagination, carried on wiping tables and there he was in the mirror again, called DH up and he said was it the man with shoulder length black hair and a white silk shirt on? then he explained every barmaid saw him when cleaning tables and that as long as he was in that room I was ok, sure enough a few weeks later I saw him stood in the doorway to the bar, about a minute later a man punched someone and there was a massive fight, years later another fight kicked off, this time in the garden, looked up and there was the man stood on the fire escape, a couple years after that he was standing at the window as I locked up, 2 hours later I walked past having nipped to a club for an after work drink and found the windows smashed.

On a much lighter note, I was locking up one halloween completely by myself, I'd been working there about 8 years by this point so locking up on my own wasn't a new thing or anything i was particularly bothered by, it was mid week and the town was quiet and the cleaner was off so i had stayed late to clean, I was just finishing cleaning the toilets when i heard a shaking of chains and thumping, all the doors were locked so I ignored it and washed the up stairs floors, went down stairs and the front door was shaking, looked on the camera and could't see anyone there so mopped the downstairs floor and went out to clean the back garden and have a sneaky cigarette and again i heard the door rattling and the chain shaking, went to look on the camera and still couldn't see anyone there, as I'm looking at the camera I hear the other door rattling, flick over to that camera and there is a ghostly pale face, by this point I've finished cleaning apart from the garden and decided as I'm opening in the morning I'll just lock up and come in early to clean in the daylight, so i lock up, check the camera and there's nothing there, so I set the alarm and leave, as I'm locking the back door i hear the chain shaking and door rattling again so I speed up my locking up and decide to walk the other way home, as I turn my back to the pub something grabs my arm, I scream and then i hear laughing, it was a barman from a local club, he'd been dressed as death for a party, had seen the lights on as he walked his girlfriend home so shook the door to see if i was in, which had rattled the chain we use to hold it open, then he had seen the lights still on when he walked back and decided he'd try all the doors to check i was ok as he knew I would usually have left by then and thought it was absolutely hysterical when he realised in trying to check up on me he'd creeped me out more than the haunted pub ever had.

When I was at Uni my room was on the top floor of a house I shared. I often felt like I was being watched, although never saw anything. There used to be weird noises at night and it often sounded like there was someone walking round my room when it was empty. I went home for a week and my housemate said she thought I'd left the taps running in my sink as she'd heard running water all week. One night my then boyfriend (now DH!) and I were in bed and heard a noise like something being thrown across the room. Put the light on and the TV remote had moved from the top of my chest of drawers to the middle of the floor. Another night we heard really loud footsteps which were definitely in my room but the only people in the room were me and DH and we were in bed. I was never really sure if I believed people being able to feel a presence, but there was definitely something there. I never felt scared on my own really, but felt like whatever it was didn't like DH.

My gran was very close to my 8yr old dd. She was never ill, so her death came as a shock. We waited until morning to tell my dd, but she came down and said 'Nanny came to say bye bye to me last night, why?' Still makes me feel a bit strange to be honest

DH and I were staying in a wooden lodge holiday let a good few years ago (before dd). There were about a dozen lodges, our one was quite new and right on the edge of the site (which was in the middle of nowhere). It was a beautiful place but from the minute we arrived I did not feel comfortable. We were there for four nights and I just felt off the whole time - I hated showering in the ensuite, there was a horrible feeling of being watched. I would wake in the night and be positive I could hear big clumpy boots walking up and down the wooden floor in the hall outside our bedroom and I had terrible nightmares every night we were there. The tv in our bedroom would also flicker on and off. The whole time we were there I never mentioned any of this to DH as he does not believe in all that and I didn't want to spoil our romantic break. I was very glad when I was time to go home and once home I told DH how I had felt and I couldn't believe it when he said he had experienced the same feelings and heard the walking in the hall, but hadn't wanted to say anything as he didn't want to freak me out!

DD(7mo) has just learned to wave. Usually she only waves at people who are talking to/interacting with her in some way, but twice now she's squirmed round in my arms to get a better view of an empty corner of a room in our house, grinned, and started waving at it.

Realistically: she's a baby, babies are weird, probably she's just decided to make friends with a cobweb or something. But try telling yourself that at 3am when you're home alone with the baby, and she's gone straight from screaming to smile/waving at nothing in the dark - it's a hard sell!

I will always remember this one. It was a blazing hot day in the middle of June when I was about 14 or 15. I was walking home from school so it was about 3pm. I walked up our driveway and as I came round the corner I saw my mum. She was standing by the front door facing me. I remember saying "Oh! You startled me, you're early!" She didn't reply but she did point over my shoulder at the big old Leylandi tree we had in the front garden. I turned to look and when I turned round again, mum was gone.

Assuming she had gone inside, I opened the door (yale lock) and yelled "don't wait for me then!" to be greeted be silence, and a decidedly empty house. It then dawned on me that mums car hadn't been in the drive.....

Mum came home as normal at 6pm and confirmed that she had not been at home earlier.....

It would make a much better story if the Leylandi had come crashing down in a storm or something, but nothing like that ever happened, we lived there quite happily for another few years and I never saw other mum again, or figured out what had happened!

When DD was only just turned 3, she was with me in a very old Cathedral local to us...we visited often...in the UK, in one of the most ancient cities. We were walking around the building through the gardens and she saw a tiny little ancient door...she said "Look! That's where the men in their long dresses are...they go ooommmmmmmm"

I said "What men?" and she said "They have long brown dresses on and they sing ooooooooooohhhhhmmm" and it was as though she was describing monks doing their Gregorian type chanting. She's never seen a monk.

On two occasions i have felt presence in the room and pressure on me as I lay in bed alone. I was frozen to the spot and couldn't move. Absolutely terrifying.
I had taken a herbal remedy - valerian or something that I had bought in Boots to help me sleep. I will never again take anything with valerian/hops in it. Probably caused an hallucination.
