I fell off the new pony, waaaah, in front of MILLIONS of people.

He was really spooky in that school, there were quite a few of us in there and we started following one another which took his mind off darting sideways at every corner at least. The pony in front got incredibly excited when the one in front of him (who is only 3) cantered but it was like his brain misfired and instead of canter he opted for 'huuuuuuuge almost vertical buck'. I just had time to register his tiny rider flying through the air when mine shot forward then did the same (but much less dramatically). It was funny really, glad it happened to me and not my daughter anyway (who was happily jumping in the next school and missed most of the action, yet saw enough to say I looked like a 'demented penguin in the sand' ).

Ha ha, mine does the 'vertical buck' with no warning as well. He once did an enormous one and I said to my sister that I wish I could have seen how high he went, and her answer was "you don't want to know"

He hasn't got me off yet (touch wood) but he did manage to give me a painful bang on the chin with his neck. Youngsters are sweet aren't they?

youngsters are hilarious, I have to admit I laughed all the way to the garage (not laughing now though, now I know I have another £500+ repair bill, gah) - it must have looked quite a sight, so many of us sprawled in the sand at once , the ponies all followed suit like dominoes

but my one did not go vertical, it was a much poorer effort (although impressive compared to his usual bucks)

anyway am not playing follow the leader in there again! ever!

Never mind, the littl'uns are easy to fall off of when you are used to a big horse, there's nothing in front and they are so much more agile. I used to ride a little dartmoor (about 11hh but built like a tank) and I think I came off him more times than any other pony/horse ever, simply because he would swerve and I would carry on without him. Once he bucked and I found myself sitting behind his ears! I wasn't sure what was best to do so I wriggled off over his head.

it's true isn't it, you get so little warning, in the air before you register the movement - the one I fell off 3 times in 20 minutes is also 13hh, yet have definitely sat to far worse on bigger beasts, like the time one tried to double-barrel my instructor in the head

I never fall off my own horse, must polish his halo tomorrow!
