My first pony - I have found contact details of the people I sold him to 21 years ago. Should I ring them?

I had my first pony when I was 10 and kept him until I was 18. I had to sell him as my parents were divorcing and un-horsey, plus I was off to uni etc.

He was a brilliant pony, i had some real adventures on him and I think about him alot, especially lately for some reason . He would be 32 now, so possibly dead I imagine.

I really want to ring the people I sold him too and find out what happened to him (they bought him for their 12 year old daughter).

Should I forget it? Will they think I'm bonkers? They will wont they?

You should ring. Either they'll tell you he's dead (which you are half-expecting anyway) or you will have a lovely surprise and find he's enjoying his retirement. It's worth taking a chance surely? At least you will know either way.

Be prepared for a bit of detective work though as the chances are he was sold on. 12 year old boys have a habit of rapid growth spurts!

We traced our first pony back to people who'd had him when he was young and they were thrilled to find out where he was. We loved seeing old photos and even cinefilm of him being driven and ridden at shows. Whoever has your old pony now is more likely to enjoy seeing a glimpse of his past than to think you are bonkers.

Sorry, just seen 12 yo daughter.
It's this damn new layout, all the scrolling to and from makes me forget what I've just read and I'm getting very fed up with it.

definately ring
I had a phone call 2 weeks ago from someone who had just bought a mare I sold on 4 years ago. I know its nowhere near as long a time scale but its lovely to know where she is and how she is doing, and infact I am going to go and visit her.
You may not get anywhere, but you'll never know unless you give it a shot.

Hi thanks everyone!
Well, I found out from t'internet that they still live at the same house and got their tel number from BT.

Sooooo, heart thumping I rang and spoke to the mum of the 12 year old girl (12 year old girl now is 33 and in the RAF abroad). She remembered me and didn't think I was mad at all.

It turns out they kept him for about 6 yrs, until he was well and truly outgrown and then sold him to a teacher for her daughter (details not known).

Even though I don't know what he is doing now I'm glad I rang. Its comforting to know he was loved by them and gave their daughter so much joy. Mum said she would disapear for hours on him but she always knew he'd look after her and they'd be ok. She thanked me for selling them such a wonderful pony.

Awwww, we had a right old chat about him and it was lovely to speak to people who were as enthusiastic about him as I was.

Bless him, whereever he is.

Thanks ladies for convincing me to do something I have been too scared to do for a while. Have a bit of a lump in my throat now....
