Can anyone recommend a fly mask?

DD’s mare will not keep the blooming things on

I turned her out this morning and barely made it out the field before she got it off, and then wouldn’t let me anywhere near her to put it back on Hmm

Thanks!

The Shires durable is brilliant - 5 out of 6 are still going strong after 2 months. Having said that if she doesn't want it on why aren't you listening to her?

She’s a grey with a very pink face and a wall eye and gets badly sunburnt - she will not entertain the idea of sun cream

Plus the field is quite bad for flies at the moment.

She lets me put it on quite happily, but has it off the second she’s in the field

In previous summers we’ve had her in during the day and out at night, but none of the other liveries at the yard are doing that this year and she won’t stay in/out on her own

Gargh bloody horses!!

Mine wears a Cashel flymask... I won't use anything else as I love the fit of them... And it's double velcro (but my mare is a goody two shoes!)

But like other poster said, if she don't wanna wear it ... 🤷‍♀️ I know we know best but I refer back to my first sentence 🙄

Can you put her hay in the shade? (assuming she's on hay and shade is available!).

With mind they love the fly masks going on, hate them coming off - my mental state is hugely important. If I think 'it's dark, your mask is coming off' they stand still. If I think 'oh, I would like to take your mask off, is that OK with you?' I get at best a sneer and at worst a clean pair of heels!!

Mine, not mind.

Thanks

We don’t put hay out but there’s loads of shade in the field.

Her favourite activity seems to be laying flat out in the sun snoozing - the phrase ‘you can lead a horse to water but can’t make it drink’ has never been more apt with her Grin

Poor things got a face like crispy bacon at the moment

Really taken to the Weatherbeeta stretchable bug-eye mask. No chance of flies getting in, easy to fit under head collars, no velcro straps. As long as your horse is calm enough to have it pulled over its head and ears.

I have the equilibrium and it does seem to stay on most of the time. I have the midi version but they do a maxi as well which has a nose cover attached.
